அப்பொழுது சவுல்: ராஜா பரிசத்தை விரும்பாமல், பெலிஸ்தரின் நூறு நுனித்தோல்களினால் ராஜாவின் சத்துருக்களிடத்தில் பழிவாங்க விருப்பமாயிருக்கிறார் என்று தாவீதுக்குச் சொல்லுங்கள் என்றான்; தாவீதை பெலிஸ்தரின் கையினால் விழப்பண்ணுவதே சவுலுடைய எண்ணமாயிருந்தது.

சவுல் அவர்களிடம், “அரசன் உன்னிடம் பணத்தை எதிர்பார்க்கவில்லை. பணத்திற்கு பதிலாக 100 பெலிஸ்தியர்களின் நுனித்தோல் போதும் என தாவீதிடம் கூறுங்கள்” என்றான். இதுதான் சவுலின் சூழ்ச்சி. பெலிஸ்தியர்கள் தாவீதை நிச்சம் கொல்வார்கள் என சவுல் நம்பியிருந்தான்.
