ஆனாலும் பெத்ஷிமேசின் மனுஷர் கர்த்தருடைய பெட்டிக்குள் பார்த்தபடியினால், கர்த்தர் ஜனங்களில் ஐம்பதினாயிரத்து எழுபதுபேரை அடித்தார்; அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் ஜனங்களைப் பெரிய சங்காரமாக அடித்ததினிமித்தம், ஜனங்கள் துக்கித்துக்கொண்டிருந்தார்கள்.

ஆனாலும் பெத்ஷிமேசின் மனிதர்கள் கர்த்தருடைய பெட்டிக்குள் பார்த்தபடியினால், கர்த்தர் மக்களில் ஐம்பதினாயிரத்து எழுபதுபேரை அடித்தார்; அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் மக்களைப் பேரழிவாக அடித்ததினால், மக்கள் துக்கமாக இருந்தார்கள்.

ஆனால் அவர்கள் கர்த்தருடைய பரிசுத்தப் பெட்டியைப் பார்த்தபோது அங்கே ஆசாரியர்கள் இல்லாமல் இருந்தனர். எனவே தேவன் பெத்ஷிமேசில் 70 பேரை கொன்றார். பெத்ஷிமேசில் உள்ள ஜனங்கள் இக்கொடுமையான தண்டனைக்காகக் கதறி அழுதனர்.

பெத்சமேசு வாழ் மக்களை ஆண்டவர் சாகடித்தார். ஏனெனில், அவர்கள் ஆண்டவரின் பேழைக்குள் உற்று நோக்கினர். மக்களுள் எழுபது பேரை* அவர்வீழ்த்தினர். மக்களிடையே இப்பெரும் அழிவை ஏற்படுத்தியதற்காக மக்கள் புலம்பினார்கள்.
