சவுலும் அவன் குமாரனகிய யோனத்தானும் கர்த்தருடைய ஜனங்களும், இஸ்ரவேல் குடும்பத்தாரும், பட்டயத்தாலே விழுந்தபடியினால் புலம்பி அழுது சாயங்காலமட்டும் உபவாசமாயிருந்தார்கள்.

அவர்கள் வருத்தமுற்று அழுது மாலை வரைக்கும் ஏதும் உண்ணவில்லை. சவுலும் அவனது மகன் யோனத்தானும் மரித்துப் போனதால் அவர்கள் அழுதார்கள். தாவீதும் அவனது மனிதர்களும் கொல்லப்பட்டிருந்த கர்த்தருடைய ஜனங்களுக்காகவும் இஸ்ரவேலருக்காகவும் அழுதனர். சவுலும், யோனத்தானும் பல இஸ்ரவேலரும் யுத்தத்தில் கொல்லப்பட்டதற்காக அவர்கள் அழுதனர்.
