அவர்கள் போய் பெத்மாக்காவாகிய ஆபேலிலே அவனை முற்றிக்கைபோட்டு, பட்டணத்திற்கு எதிராகத் தெற்றுவரைக்கும் கொத்தளம் போட்டார்கள்; யோவாபோடே இருக்கிற ஜனங்கள் எல்லாம் அலங்கத்தை விழப்பண்ணும்படி அழிக்க எத்தனம்பண்ணினார்கள்.

அவர்கள் போய் பெத்மாக்காவான ஆபேலிலே அவனை முற்றுகையிட்டு, பட்டணத்திற்குள் போகத் தடைச்சுவர்களைக் கட்டினார்கள்; யோவாபோடு இருக்கிற இராணுவத்தினர்கள் எல்லோரும் மதிலை விழச்செய்யும்படி அழிக்க முயற்சிசெய்தார்கள்.

யோவாபும் அவனது ஆட்களும் ஆபேல் பெத்மாக்காவிற்கு வந்தனர். யோவாபின் படை நகரத்தைச் சூழ்ந்தது. நகரத்து மதிலின் மேல் அவர்கள் புழுதி வீசினார்கள். அவர்கள் மதிலில் ஏறுவதற்கு வசதியாக இதைச் செய்தார்கள். யோவாபின் மனிதர் மதில் கீழே விழும்படியாக மதிலின் கற்களை உடைக்க ஆரம்பித்தார்கள்.

யோவாபும் அவர் படையினரும் பெத்மாக்காவின் ஆபேலில் முற்றுகையிட்டு சேபாவை வளைத்தனர். நகருக்கு எதிராக முற்றுகைக் கோட்டை எழுப்பினர். அது மதிலுக்கு அருகில் இருந்தது. அதனின்று யோவாபோடு இருந்த வீரர்கள் அனைவரும் அம்மதிலைத் தகர்த்துக் கொண்டிருந்தனர்.
