அவர்களுக்கு நான் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: குற்றஞ்சாட்டப்பட்ட மனுஷன் குற்றஞ்சாட்டினவர்களுக்கு முகமுமாய் நின்று, சாட்டின குற்றத்துக்குத் தனக்காக எதிருத்தரவு சொல்ல அவனுக்கு இடங்கிடைக்கிறதற்குமுன்னே, குற்றஞ்சாட்டி அவர்கள் பட்சமாய் அவனை மரணத்திற்கு ஒப்புக்கொடுக்கிறது ரோமருக்கு வழக்கமல்ல என்றேன்.

ஆனால் நான், ‘ஒரு மனிதன் குற்றம் செய்ததாகக் குற்றம் சாட்டப்பட்டால், ரோமர் அவனைப் பிறரிடம் நியாயம் வழங்குவதன் பொருட்டு ஒப்படைப்பதில்லை. முதலில் அம்மனிதன் அவனைப் பழியிடும் மக்களை எதிர்கொள்ளவேண்டும். அவர்கள் இட்ட வழக்குகளுக்கு எதிரான தனது கருத்துக்களைச் சொல்லவேண்டும்’ என்று பதில் அளித்தேன்.
