யோசுவா ஜனங்களை நோக்கி: நீங்கள் கர்த்தரைச் சேவிக்கமாட்டீர்கள்; அவர் பரிசுத்தமுள்ள தேவன், அவர் எரிச்சலுள்ள தேவன்; உங்கள் மீறுதலையும் உங்கள் பாவங்களையும் மன்னியார்.

அப்போது யோசுவா, “அது உண்மையல்ல. நீங்கள் கர்த்தருக்குத் தொடர்ந்து சேவை செய்வதென்பது இயலாதது. தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் பரிசுத்தர். அந்நிய தெய்வங்களை ஆராதிக்கும் ஜனங்களை தேவன் வெறுக்கிறார். தனக்கெதிராக அவ்வாறு திரும்பினால் உங்களை தேவன் மன்னிக்கமாட்டார்.
