கர்த்தர் கிதியோனை நோக்கி: ஜனங்கள் இன்னும் அதிகம், அவர்களைத் தண்ணீரண்டைக்கு இறங்கிப்போகப்பண்ணு; அங்கே அவர்களைப் பரீட்சித்துக்காட்டுவேன்; உன்னோடேகூட வரலாம் என்று நான் யாரைக் குறிக்கிறேனோ, அவன் உன்னோடேகூட வரக்கடவன்; உன்னோடேகூட வரலாகாது என்று நான் யாரைக் குறிக்கிறேனோ, அவன் உன்னோடேகூட வராதிருக்கக்கடவன் என்றார்.

கர்த்தர் கிதியோனை நோக்கி: மக்கள் இன்னும் அதிகம், அவர்களைத் தண்ணீரின் அருகே இறங்கிப்போகச்செய்; அங்கே அவர்களை சோதித்துப் பார்ப்பேன்; உன்னோடு வரலாம் என்று நான் யாரைக் குறிக்கிறேனோ, அவன் உன்னோடு வரட்டும்; உன்னோடு வரக்கூடாது என்று நான் யாரைக் குறிக்கிறேனோ, அவன் உன்னோடு வராதிருக்கவேண்டும் என்றார்.

அப்போது கர்த்தர் கிதியோனை நோக்கி, “இப்போதும் ஆட்கள் மிகுதியாக இருக்கிறார்கள், அவர்களை தண்ணீரருகே அழைத்துச் செல். உனக்காக அவர்களை அங்கு பரிசோதிப்பேன். ‘இந்த மனிதன் உன்னோடு செல்வான்’ என்று நான் கூறினால் அவன் போவான். ‘அவன் உன்னோடு செல்லமாட்டான்’ என்று நான் கூறினால் அவன் போகமாட்டான்” என்றார்.

ஆண்டவர் கிதியோனிடம், “மக்கள் இன்னும் ஏராளமாக உள்ளனர். அவர்களை நீர்நிலைக்கு அழைத்துவா. அங்கே உனக்காக அவர்களைத் தேர்ந்தெடுப்பேன். ‘இவன் உன்னுடன் செல்வான்’ என்று யாரைக் குறித்து உன்னிடம் குறிப்பிடுகிறேனோ அவன் உன்னுடன் செல்வான்; ‘இவன் உன்னுடன் செல்லமாட்டான்’ என்று யாரைக் குறித்துக் குறிப்பிடுகிறேனோ, அவன் உன்னுடன் செல்லமாட்டான்” என்றார்.
