எபூசியரை முறிய அடிக்கிறதில் எவன் முந்தினவனாயிருக்கிறானோ, அவன் தலைவனும் சேனாபதியுமாயிருப்பானென்று தாவீது சொல்லியிருந்தான்; செருயாவின் குமாரனாகிய யோவாப் முந்தி ஏறித் தலைவனானான்.

தாவீது, “எவனொருவன் எபூசியரோடு போரிட வழிநடத்திச் சென்றானோ அவன் என் படை முழுவதற்கும் தளபதியாவான்” என்றான். எனவே, யோவாப் போருக்கு வழிநடத்தினான். யோவாப், செருயாவின் மகன். யோவாப் படைத் தளபதியானான்.
