அப்பொழுது யோவாப் கர்த்தருடைய ஜனங்கள் இப்போது இருக்கிறதைப்பார்க்கிலும் நூறத்தனையாய் அவர் வர்த்திக்கப்பண்ணுவாராக; ஆனாலும் ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவனே, அவர்களெல்லாரும் என் ஆண்டவனின் சேவகரல்லவா? என் ஆண்டவன் இதை விசாரிப்பானேன்? இஸ்ரவேலின்மேல் குற்றமுண்டாக இது நடக்கவேண்டியது என்ன என்றான்.

அப்பொழுது யோவாப்: கர்த்தருடைய மக்கள் இப்போது இருக்கிறதைவிட நூறு மடங்காக அவர் பெருகச்செய்வாராக; ஆனாலும் ராஜாவாகிய என்னுடைய ஆண்டவனே, அவர்கள் எல்லோரும் என்னுடைய ஆண்டவனுக்கு பணிவிடை செய்வதில்லையா? என்னுடைய ஆண்டவன் இதை ஏன் விசாரிக்கவேண்டும்? இஸ்ரவேலின்மேல் குற்றமுண்டாக இது எதற்காக நடக்கவேண்டும் என்றான்.

ஆனால் யோவாப், “இப்போதுԔ இருக்கிற ஜனங்களைவிட நூறு மடங்காக கர்த்தர் செய்வார்! ஐயா, இஸ்ரவேலரின் அனைத்து ஜனங்களும் உங்கள் தொண்டர்கள். எனது அரசனும் ஆண்டவனும் ஆனவரே! இந்த செயலை ஏன் செய்ய விரும்புகிறீர்? நீங்கள் இஸ்ரவேல் ஜனங்கள் அனைவரையும் பாவம் செய்த உணர்வுக்கு உள்ளாக்குவீர்கள்!” என்று சொன்னான்.

யோவாபு பதிலுரையாக, “ஆண்டவர் தன் மக்களை இப்போது இருப்பதினும் நூறு மடங்கு மிகுதியாய்ப் பெருகச் செய்வாராக! என் தலைவராகிய அரசரே, அவர்கள் யாவரும் என் தலைவரின் பணியாளர் அன்றோ! என் தலைவர் இதை ஏன் நாட வேண்டும்? இஸ்ரயேலின் மீது பழி விழக் காரணமாக வேண்டும்?” என்றார்.
