அப்பொழுது ராஜாவாகிய தாவீது: எழுந்திருந்து காலூன்றி நின்று: என் சகோதரரே, என் ஜனமே, நான் சொல்வதைக் கேளுங்கள்; கர்த்தருடைய உடன்படிக்கைப் பெட்டியும் நமது தேவனுடைய பாதபடியும் தங்குவதற்கு ஒரு ஆலயத்தைக் கட்ட நான் என் மனதிலே நினைத்து, கட்டுகிறதற்கு ஆயத்தமும் பண்ணினேன்.

அப்பொழுது ராஜாவாகிய தாவீது எழுந்து காலூன்றி நின்று: என்னுடைய சகோதரர்களே, என்னுடைய மக்களே, நான் சொல்வதைக் கேளுங்கள்; கர்த்தருடைய உடன்படிக்கைப் பெட்டியும் நமது தேவனுடைய பாதப்படியும் தங்குவதற்கு ஒரு ஆலயத்தைக் கட்ட நான் என்னுடைய மனதிலே நினைத்து, கட்டுவதற்கு ஆயத்தமும் செய்தேன்.

தாவீது எழுந்து நின்று அவர்களிடம், “நான் சொல்வதைக் கவனியுங்கள், எனது ஜனங்களே, சகோதரர்களே, கர்த்தருடைய உடன்படிக்கைப் பெட்டியை வைக்க ஒரு இடத்தை உருவாக்க வேண்டும் என்று மனதில் நினைத்துள்ளேன். தேவனுடைய பாதப்படியை வைப்பதற்காக ஒரு இடத்தைக் கட்ட விரும்புகிறேன். தேவனுக்காக ஆலயம் கட்ட திட்டமிட்டுள்ளேன்.

பின்பு, அரசர் தாவீது எழுந்து நின்று கூறியது: “என் சகோதரரே! என் மக்களே! எனக்குச் செவி கொடுங்கள். நம் கடவுளின் கால்மணையாகிய ஆண்டவரின் உடன்படிக்கைப் பேழையை வைப்பதற்குக் கோவில் ஒன்றைக் கட்டுவதற்கு என் மனத்தில் எண்ணினேன்; அதைத் கட்டுவதற்குரிய முன்னேற்பாடுகளையும் செய்தேன்.
