இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரோ கெசூரியரையும் மாகாத்தியரையும் துரத்திவிடவில்லை, கெசூரியரும் மாகாத்தியரும் இந்நாள்வரைக்கும் இஸ்ரவேலின் நடுவே குடியிருக்கிறார்கள்.

நாலாம் குமாரன் ஆகீத் பெற்ற அதோனியா என்பவன்; ஐந்தாம் குமாரன் அபித்தாள் பெற்ற செப்பத்தியா என்பவன்;

இதற்குப்பின்பு தாவீதின் குமாரனாகிய அப்சலோமுக்குத் தாமார் என்னும் பேருள்ள சவுந்தரியமுள்ள சகோதரி இருந்தாள்; அவள்மேல் தாவீதின் குமாரன் அம்னோன் மோகம்கொண்டான்.

அப்பொழுது அவள் சகோதரனாகிய அப்சலோம் அவளைப் பார்த்து: உன் சகோதரனாகிய அம்னோன் உன்னோடிருந்தானோ? இப்போதும் என் சகோதரியே, நீ மவுனமாயிரு; அவன் உன்னுடைய சகோதரன்; இந்தக் காரியத்தை உன்மனதிலே வைக்காதே என்றான்; அப்படியே தாமார் தன் சகோதரனாகிய அப்சலோமின் வீட்டில் தனித்துக் கிலேசப்பட்டுக்கொண்டிருந்தாள்.

அப்சலோம் கேசூருக்கு ஓடிப்போய் அங்கே மூன்று வருஷம் இருந்தான்.

பின்பு யோவாப் எழுந்து, கேசூருக்குப் போய், அப்சலோமை எருசலேமுக்கு அழைத்துக்கொண்டுவந்தான்.

அப்சலோம் யோவாபைப் பார்த்து: இதோ, நான் ஏன் கேசூரிலிருந்து வந்தேன்; நான் அங்கே இருந்துவிட்டால் நலம் என்று ராஜாவுக்குச் சொல்லும்படி உம்மை ராஜாவினிடத்தில் அனுப்புவதற்காக உம்மை இங்கே வரும்படி அழைப்பித்தேன், இப்போதும் நான் ராஜாவின்முகத்தைப் பார்க்கட்டும்; என்மேல் குற்றமிருந்தால் அவர் என்னைக் கொன்றுபோடட்டும் என்றான்.

கர்த்தர் என்னை எருசலேமுக்குத் திரும்பி வரப்பண்ணினால், கர்த்தருக்கு ஆராதனை செய்வேன் என்று உமது அடியானாகிய நான் சீரியாதேசத்தில் கேசூரிலே குடியிருக்கும்போது, பொருத்தனைபண்ணினேன் என்றான்.

ஆதலால் யோவாப்: நான் இப்படி உன்னோடே பேசி, தாமதிக்கமாட்டேன் என்று சொல்லி, தன் கையிலே மூன்று வல்லயங்களை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு, அப்சலோம் இன்னும் கர்வாலிமரத்தின் நடுவிலே உயிரோடே தொங்குகையில், அவைகளை அவன் நெஞ்சிலே குத்தினான்.

அப்சலோம் உயிரோடே இருக்கையில் என் பேரை நினைக்கப்பண்ணும்படியாக எனக்குக் குமாரன் இல்லை என்று சொல்லி, ராஜாவின் பள்ளத்தாக்கிலே தனக்கென்று ஒரு தூணை நிறுத்தி அந்தத் தூணுக்குத் தன் பேரைத் தரித்திருந்தான்; அது இந்நாள்வரைக்கும் அப்சலோமின் அடையாளம் என்று சொல்லப்படும்.

அப்பொழுது ராஜா மிகவும் கலங்கி, கெவுனிவாசலின் மேல்வீட்டிற்குள் ஏறிப்போய் அழுதான்; அவன் ஏறிப்போகையில்: என் மகனாகிய அப்சலோமே, என் மகனே, என் மகனாகிய அப்சலோமே, நான் உனக்குப் பதிலாகச் செத்தேனானால் நலமாயிருக்கும்; அப்சலோமே, என் மகனே, என் மகனே, என்று சொல்லி அழுதான்.

ராஜா தன் முகத்தை மூடிக்கொண்டு, மகா சத்தமாய்: என் மகனாகிய அப்சலோமே, அப்சலோமாகிய என் மகனே, என் மகனே என்று அலறிக்கொண்டிருந்தான்.

ஆகீத்திற்குப் பிறந்த அதோனியா என்பவன்; நான் ராஜா ஆவேன் என்று சொல்லி, தன்னைத்தான் உயர்த்தி, தனக்கு இரதங்களையும் குதிரைவீரரையும், தனக்குமுன் ஓடும் ஐம்பது காலாட்களையும் சம்பாதித்தான்.

இப்போதும் இன்றைக்கு அதோனியா கொலையுண்பான் என்று என்னைத் திடப்படுத்தினவரும், என்னை என் தகப்பனாகிய தாவீதின் சிங்காசனத்தில் வீற்றிருக்கப்பண்ணி, தாம் சொன்னபடி எனக்கு வீட்டைக் கட்டுவித்தவருமாகிய கர்த்தருடைய ஜீவனைக் கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன் என்று சொல்லி,

கேசூரையும் ஆராமையும் யாவீரின் கிராமங்களையும், கேனாத்திலுள்ள கிராமங்களாகிய அறுபது ஊர்களையும் அவர்கள் கையிலே வாங்கினார்கள்; இவர்கள் எல்லாரும் கிலெயாத்தின் தகப்பனாகிய மாகீரின் குமாரர்.
