ஜென்மசுபாவமான மனுஷனோ தேவனுடைய ஆவிக்குரியவைகளை ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளான்; அவைகள் அவனுக்குப் பைத்தியமாகத் தோன்றும்; அவைகள் ஆவிக்கேற்றபிரகாரமாய் ஆராய்ந்து நிதானிக்கப்படுகிறவைகளானதால், அவைகளை அறியவுமாட்டான்.

ஜென்ம சுபாவமான மனிதனோ தேவ ஆவியானவருக்குரியவைகளை ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளான்; அவைகள் அவனுக்குப் பைத்தியமாகத் தோன்றும்; அவைகள் ஆவிக்கேற்றபடி ஆராய்ந்து நிதானிக்கப்படுகிறவைகளானதால், அவைகளை அறியவும் மாட்டான்.

ஆன்மீக வாழ்க்கையில் ஈடுபடாத மனிதன் தேவனுடைய ஆவியானவரிடமிருந்து வரும் வார்த்தைகளை ஏற்றுக்கொள்வதில்லை. அவன் அவற்றை மடமையாகக் கருதுகிறான். அவன் ஆவியானவர் கருதுவனவற்றை புரிந்துகொள்ள முடியாது. ஏனெனில் அவை ஆன்மீகமாகவே புரிந்துகொள்ளப்படக் கூடும்.

திருவிவிலியம்
மனித இயல்பை மட்டும் உடைய ஒருவர் கடவுளின் ஆவிக்குரியவற்றை ஏற்றுக்கொள்வதில்லை. அவை அவருக்கு மடமையாய்த் தோன்றும். அவற்றை அவரால் அறிந்துகொள்ளவும் முடியாது. ஏனெனில், அவற்றைத் தூய ஆவியின் துணைகொண்டே ஆய்ந்துணர முடியும்.

But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

American Standard Version (ASV)
Now the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him; and he cannot know them, because they are spiritually judged.
