கர்த்தர் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரை நோக்கி: நீங்கள் அவர்களண்டைக்கும் அவர்கள் உங்களண்டைக்கும் பிரவேசிக்கலாகாது; அவர்கள் நிச்சயமாய்த் தங்கள் தேவர்களைப் பின்பற்றும்படி உங்கள் இருதயத்தைச் சாயப்பண்ணுவார்கள் என்று சொல்லியிருந்தார்; சாலொமோன் அவர்கள்மேல் ஆசைவைத்து, அவர்களோடு ஐக்கியமாயிருந்தான்.

முன்பு, கர்த்தர் இஸ்ரவேல் ஜனங்களிடம், “அடுத்த நாட்டு பெண்களை மணந்துக்கொள்ளாதீர்கள். அவ்வாறு செய்தால், அவர்களின் தெய்வங்களை நீங்கள் வணங்க வேண்டியது வரும்” என்றார். ஆனால், சாலொமோன் இதுபோன்ற பெண்களை நேசித்தான்.

அவ்வேற்றினத்தாரைக் குறித்து ஆண்டவர் இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களிடம், “நீங்கள் அயல்நாடுகளிலிருந்து பெண் கொள்ளவும் வேண்டாம்; கொடுக்கவும் வேண்டாம்; ஏனெனில், அவர்கள் தம் தெய்வங்களை வணங்கும்படி உங்கள் உள்ளங்களை மயக்கி விடுவார்கள்” என்று கூறியிருந்தார். அப்படிக் கூறியிருந்தும் அந்நாட்டுப் பெண்கள்மேல் சாலமோன் மையல் கொண்டிருந்தார்.
