அதற்கு அவன்: சேனைகளின் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தருக்காக வெகு பக்திவைராக்கியமாயிருந்தேன்; இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் உமது உடன்படிக்கையைத் தள்ளிவிட்டார்கள்; உம்முடைய பலிபீடங்களை இடித்து, உம்முடைய தீர்க்கதரிசிகளைப் பட்டயத்தினால் கொன்றுபோட்டார்கள்; நான் ஒருவன்மாத்திரம் மீதியாயிருக்கிறேன்; என் பிராணனையும் வாங்கத் தேடுகிறார்கள் என்றான்.

அதற்கு எலியா, “சர்வ வல்லமையுள்ள தேவனாகிய கர்த்தாவே, நான் எப்போதும் உமக்கு ஊழியம் செய்திருக்கிறேன். நான் எப்பொழுதும் என்னால் முடிந்தஅளவு சிறப்பாக சேவை செய்திருக்கிறேன். ஆனால் இஸ்ரவேலர்கள் தம் உடன்படிக்கையை முறித்துவிட்டனர். உம்முடைய பலிபீடங்களை அழித்தனர். உம்முடைய தீர்க்கதரிசிகளைக் கொன்றனர். இப்பொழுது ஒரே தீர்க்கதரிசியான என்னையும் கொல்லப்பார்க்கிறார்கள்!” என்று முறையிட்டான்.
