அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா, தேசத்தின் மூப்பரையெல்லாம் அழைப்பித்து: இவன் பொல்லாப்புத் தேடுகிற விதத்தைக் கவனித்துப்பாருங்கள்; என் ஸ்திரீகளையும், என் குமாரர்களையும், என் வெள்ளியையும், என் பொன்னையும் கேட்க, இவன் என்னிடத்தில் ஆள் அனுப்பினபோது, நான் கொடுக்கமாட்டேன் என்று இவனுக்கு மறுக்கவில்லையே என்றான்.

அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா, தேசத்தின் மூப்பர்களையெல்லாம் அழைத்து: இவன் ஆபத்தைத் தேடுகிற விதத்தைக் கவனித்துப் பாருங்கள்; என்னுடைய பெண்களையும், என்னுடைய மகன்களையும், என்னுடைய வெள்ளியையும், என்னுடைய பொன்னையும் கேட்க, இவன் என்னிடம் ஆள் அனுப்பினபோது, நான் கொடுக்கமாட்டேன் என்று இவனுக்கு மறுக்கவில்லையே என்றான்.

எனவே ஆகாப் தன் நாட்டிலுள்ள மூப்பர்களை அழைத்து ஒன்று சேர்த்து ஒரு கூட்டம் போட்டான். அவன், “பாருங்கள், பெனாதாத் தொல்லை தர வந்துள்ளான். முதலில் அவன் எனது வெள்ளி, பொன், மனைவி, ஜனங்கள் அனைத்தையும் கேட்டான். நான் அவற்றைக் கொடுக்க ஒப்புக்கொண்டேன். ஆனால் இப்போது அவன் எல்லாவற்றையும் விரும்புகிறான். நாம் என்ன செய்யலாம்” என ஆலோசித்தான்.

அப்போது இஸ்ரயேலின் அரசன் நாட்டின் பெரியோர்களை எல்லாம் அழைத்து, “இவன் நமக்கு எதிராய்ச் சூழ்ச்சி செய்யும் விதத்தைத் தெரிந்து கொள்ளுங்கள். பாருங்கள்! இவன் என் மனைவியரையும் மைந்தரையும் என் வெள்ளியையும் பொன்னையும் கேட்டான். அவற்றைக் கொடுக்க நான் மறுக்கவில்லையே!” என்று கூறினான்.
