அவன் புருஷனாகிய எல்க்கானா அவளைப் பார்த்து: அன்னாளே, ஏன் அழுகிறாய்? ஏன் சாப்பிடாதிருக்கிறாய்? ஏன் சஞ்சலப்படுகிறாய்? பத்துக் குமாரரைப்பார்க்கிலும் நான் உனக்கு அதிகமல்லவா என்றான்.

அப்போது அவர் கணவர் எல்கானா அவரை நோக்கி “அன்னா நீ ஏன் அழுகிறாய்? நீ ஏன் உண்ணவில்லை? நீ ஏன் மனவருத்தம் அடைகிறாய்? நான் உனக்குப் பத்துப் புதல்வரை விட மேலானவன் அன்றோ?” என்பார்.
