நான் சவுலை ராஜாவாக்கினது எனக்கு மனஸ்தாபமாயிருக்கிறது; அவன் என்னைவிட்டுத் திரும்பி, என் வார்த்தைகளை நிறைவேற்றாமற்போனான் என்றார்; அப்பொழுது சாமுவேல் மனம் நொந்து, இராமுழுதும் கர்த்தரை நோக்கிக் கூப்பிட்டான்.

நான் சவுலை ராஜாவாக்கியது எனக்கு வருத்தமாக இருக்கிறது; அவன் என்னைவிட்டுத் திரும்பி, என் வார்த்தைகளை நிறைவேற்றாமல் போனான் என்றார்; அப்பொழுது சாமுவேல் மனம் வருந்தி, இரவு முழுவதும் கர்த்தரை நோக்கிக் கூப்பிட்டான்.

அதற்கு கர்த்தர். “சவுல் என்னைப் பின்பற்றுவதை விட்டுவிட்டான், அவனை அரசனாக்கியதற்காக வருந்துகிறேன். நான் சொல்வதை அவன் செய்வதில்லை” என்றார். சாமுவேலும் கோபங்கொண்டு இரவு முழுவதும் அழுது கர்த்தரை நினைத்து ஜெபம் செய்தான்.
