தாவீது சவுல் தன்னை அனுப்புகிற எவ்விடத்திற்கும் போய், புத்தியாய்க் காரியத்தை நடப்பித்ததினால், சவுல் அவனை யுத்தமனுஷரின்மேல் அதிகாரியாக்கினான்; அவன் எல்லா ஜனத்தின் கண்களுக்கும், சவுலுடைய ஊழியக்காரரின் கண்களுக்கும்கூடப் பிரியமாயிருந்தான்.

தாவீது சவுல் தன்னை அனுப்புகிற எவ்விடத்திற்கும் போய், புத்தியாய்க் காரியத்தை நடத்தியதால், சவுல் அவனை யுத்தமனிதர்களின்மேல் அதிகாரியாக்கினான்; அவன் எல்லா மக்களின் கண்களுக்கும், சவுலுடைய ஊழியக்காரர்களின் கண்களுக்கும் பிரியமாயிருந்தான்.

பல யுத்தங்களுக்கு தாவீதை சவுல் அனுப்பினான். தாவீதும் மிகப் பெரிய வெற்றிகளை அடைந்தான். பின்பு அவனை படை வீரருக்கு தலைவன் ஆக்கினான். சவுலின் தளபதிகள் உட்பட அனைவரும் இதை ஏற்றுக்கொண்டனர்!
