தாவீது பெலிஸ்தனைக் கொன்று திரும்பி வந்தபின்பு, ஜனங்கள் திரும்பவரும்போதும், ஸ்திரீகள் இஸ்ரவேலின் சகல பட்டணங்களிலுமிருந்து, ஆடல் பாடலுடன் புறப்பட்டு, மேளங்களோடும் கீதவாத்தியங்களோடும் சந்தோஷமாய் ராஜாவாகிய சவுலுக்கு எதிர்கொண்டுவந்தார்கள்.

தாவீது பெலிஸ்தியர்களோடு சண்டையிட வெளியேறினான். போரிலிருந்து வெற்றிபெற்று திரும்பியபோது, இஸ்ரவேலின் ஒவ்வொரு நகரப் பெண்மணிகளும் தாவீதைப் பாராட்ட வந்தனர். சிரித்து நடனமாடி மேளமும் யாழும் வாசித்தனர். சவுல் எதிரில் இதனைச் செய்தனர்.
