அப்பொழுது யோனத்தான் இஸ்ரவேலின் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தரை முன்னிட்டுத் தாவீதை நோக்கி: நான் நாளையாவது, மறுநாளிலாவது என் தகப்பனுடைய மனதை அறிந்துகொண்டு, அவர் தாவீதின்மேல் தயவாயிருக்கிறார் என்று கண்டும், அதை அப்போது உமது செவிகளுக்கு வெளிப்படுத்தும்படிக்கு, உமக்குச் சொல்லியனுப்பாதிருந்தால்,

யோனத்தான், “இஸ்ரவேலரின் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தருடைய முன்னிலையில் வாக்களிக்கிறேன், நான் நாளையோ மறுநாளோ என் தந்தையின் மனதை அறிந்துவிடுவேன். அவர் உன்மேல் தயவாக இருந்தாலும், தீங்கு செய்யும் எண்ணமாக இருந்தாலும் 3 நாட்களுக்குள் அறிவிப்பேன்.

யோனாத்தான் தாவீதை நோக்கி, “இஸ்ரயேலின் கடவுளாகிய ஆண்டவர் சான்று பகர்வாராக! நாளை இதே நேரத்தில் அல்லது மூன்றாம் நாளில் என் தந்தையின் கருத்தை அறிவேன்; அது தாவீதுக்கு சாதகமாய் இருந்ததால் உனக்கு அதைத் தெரிவிக்க ஆளனுப்பமாட்டேனா?
