பின்பு தாவீது: நான் எந்த நாளிலாகிலும் ஒருநாள் சவுலின் கையினால் மடிந்துபோவேன்; இனிச் சவுல் இஸ்ரவேலின் எல்லைகளில் எங்கேயாவது என்னைக் கண்டுபிடிக்கலாம் என்கிற நம்பிக்கை அற்றுப்போகும்படிக்கும், நான் அவன் கைக்கு நீங்கலாயிருக்கும்படிக்கும், நான் பெலிஸ்தரின் தேசத்திற்குப் போய், தப்பித்துக்கொள்வதப்பார்க்கிலும் நலமான காரியம் வேறில்லை என்று தன் இருதயத்தில் யோசித்தான்.

பின்பு தாவீது: நான் எந்த நாளிலாவது ஒரு நாள் சவுலின் கையினால் அழிந்து போவேன்; இனிச் சவுல் இஸ்ரவேலின் எல்லைகளில் எங்கேயாவது என்னைக் கண்டுபிடிக்கலாம் என்கிற நம்பிக்கை இல்லாமல்போகும்படியும், நான் அவனுடைய கைக்கு நீங்கியிருக்கும்படியும், நான் பெலிஸ்தர்களின் தேசத்திற்குப் போய், தப்பித்துக்கொள்வதை விட நலமான காரியம் வேறில்லை என்று தன்னுடைய இருதயத்தில் யோசித்தான்.

தாவீது தனக்குள், “என்றாவது சவுல் என்னைப் பிடித்துக் கொல்லுவான். எனவே பெலிஸ்தரின் நாட்டிற்குத் தப்பிச் செல்வதுதான் நான் இப்போது செய்ய வேண்டியது. பிறகு சவுல் என்னை இஸ்ரவேலில் தேடுவதை விட்டுவிடுவான். இவ்வாறு தான் இவனிடமிருந்து தப்பிக்கவேண்டும்” என்று நினைத்துக்கொண்டான்.

பின்னர், தாவீது, “ நான் இங்கே சவுலின் கையில் ஒருநாள் மடிவது திண்ணம்; ஆதலால் பெலிஸ்தியர் நாட்டுக்குச் சென்று தப்பித்துக் கொள்வதைவிட எனக்கு வேறு வழியில்லை; அப்பொழுது தான் இஸ்ரயேலின் எல்லைக்குள் என்னைக் கண்டு பிடிக்கலாமென்ற நம்பிக்கை சவுலுக்கு அற்றுப் போகும்; நானும் அவர் கையிலிருந்து தப்பி விடுவேன்” என்று தமக்குள் சொல்லிக் கொண்டார்.
