அப்பொழுது சவுல் தன் வேலைக்காரனைப் பார்த்து: நாம் போனாலும் அந்த மனுஷனுக்கு என்னத்தைக் கொண்டுபோவோம்; நம்முடைய பைகளில் இருந்த தின்பண்டங்கள் செலவழிந்துபோயிற்று; தேவனுடைய மனுஷனாகிய அவருக்குக் கொண்டு போகத்தக்க காணிக்கை நம்மிடத்தில் ஒன்றும் இல்லையே என்றான்.

அப்பொழுது சவுல் தன்னுடைய வேலைக்காரனைப் பார்த்து: நாம் போனாலும் அந்த மனிதனுக்கு என்ன கொண்டுபோவோம்; நம்முடைய பைகளில் இருந்த தின்பண்டங்கள் செலவழிந்து போனது; தேவனுடைய மனிதனாகிய அவருக்குக் கொண்டு போவதற்குரிய காணிக்கை நம்மிடத்தில் ஒன்றும் இல்லையே என்றான்.

சவுல் தன் வேலைக்காரனிடம். “உறுதியாக, நாம் நகருக்குள் போவோம், ஆனால் அவருக்கு எதைக் கொடுப்பது? தேவமனிதனுக்கு கொடுக்க அன்பளிப்புகள் எதுவுமில்லை. நம்மிடம் உணவு கூட இல்லையே?” என்றான்.

சவுல் தம் பணியாளிடம், “சரி செல்வோம். ஆனால், அவருக்கு நாம் என்ன கொடுப்போம்? ஏனெனில், நம் பைகளிலிருந்த அப்பம் தீர்ந்து விட்டது. கடவுளின் அடியவருக்கு அன்பளிப்புத் தர எதுவும் இல்லையே! என்ன செய்வோம்?” என்றார்.
