அங்கே ஓதேத் என்னும் பேருள்ள கர்த்தருடைய தீர்க்கதரிசி ஒருவன் இருந்தான்; அவன் சமாரியாவுக்கு வருகிற சேனைக்கு திரளாகப் போய், அவர்களை நோக்கி: இதோ, உங்கள் பிதாக்களின் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் யூதாவின்மேல் கோபங்கொண்டபடியினால் அவர்களை உங்கள் கைகளில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார்; நீங்களோ வானபரியந்தம் எட்டுகிற உக்கிரத்தோடே அவர்களைச் சங்காரம்பண்ணினீர்கள்.

அங்கே ஓதேத் என்னும் பெயருடைய கர்த்தருடைய தீர்க்கதரிசி ஒருவன் இருந்தான்; அவன் சமாரியாவுக்கு வருகிற படைக்கு எதிராகப் போய், அவர்களை நோக்கி: இதோ, உங்கள் முன்னோர்களின் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் யூதாவின்மேல் கோபம்கொண்டதால் அவர்களை உங்கள் கைகளில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார்; நீங்களோ வானம்வரை எட்டுகிற கடுங்கோபத்தோடு அவர்களை அழித்தீர்கள்.

ஆனால் அங்கே கர்த்தருடைய தீர்க்கதரிசி ஒருவன் இருந்தான். அவனது பெயர் ஒதேத். சமாரியாவிற்கு வந்த இஸ்ரவேல் படையை ஒதேத் சந்தித்தான். ஒதேத் இஸ்ரவேல் படையினரிடம், “உங்கள் முற்பிதாக்கள் பணிந்த தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் நீங்கள் யூதாவின் ஜனங்களைத் தோற்கடிக்கவிட்டார். ஏனென்றால் அவர்கள் மீது அவர் கோபமாயிருந்தார். மிக மோசமான முறையில் நீங்கள் யூதாவின் ஜனங்களைக் கொன்று தண்டித்தீர்கள். இப்போது தேவன் உங்கள் மீது கோபமாக இருக்கிறார்.

அங்கே ஓதேது என்பவர் ஆண்டவரின் இறைவாக்கினராக இருந்தார். சமாரியாவுக்குள் வந்திருந்த போர்ப்படைக்கு முன் அவர் சென்று, அவர்களை நோக்கி, “இதோ உங்கள் மூதாதையர்களின் கடவுளான ஆண்டவர் யூதாவின் மேல் சினம்கொண்டு, அவர்களை உங்களது கையில் ஒப்படைத்தார். நீங்களோ அவர்களை வெஞ்சினத்தோடு கொன்றீர்கள். அது வான்மட்டும் எட்டியுள்ளது.
