நாலாம் மாதம் ஒன்பதாந்தேதியிலே பஞ்சம் நகரத்திலே அதிகரித்து, தேசத்தின் ஜனத்திற்கு ஆகாரம் இல்லாமற்போயிற்று; நகரத்தின் மதிலில் திறப்பு கண்டது.

உங்கள் அப்பம் என்னும் ஆதரவுகோலை நான் முறித்துப்போடும்போது, பத்து ஸ்திரீகள் ஒரே அடுப்பில் உங்கள் அப்பத்தைச் சுட்டு, அதைத் திரும்ப உங்களுக்கு நிறுத்துக்கொடுப்பார்கள்; நீங்கள் சாப்பிட்டும் திருப்தியடையமாட்டீர்கள்

உன் தேசமெங்கும் நீ நம்பியிருக்கும் உயரமும் அரணிப்பும் மதில்கள் விழுமளவும், அவன் உன் வாசல்களிலெங்கும் உன்னை முற்றிக்கைப்போடுவான்; உன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் உனக்குக் கொடுத்த உன்னுடைய தேசமெங்குமுள்ள உன்னுடைய வாசல்கள்தோறும் உன்னை முற்றிக்கைப்போடுவான்.

இந்த நகரம் பாபிலோன் ராஜாவினுடைய இராணுவத்தின் கையில் நிச்சயமாக ஒப்புக்கொடுக்கப்படும்; அவன் அதைப் பிடிப்பானென்பதைக் கர்த்தர் உரைக்கிறார் என்றும்,

நாலாம் மாதம் ஒன்பதாம் தேதியிலே பஞ்சம் நகரத்திலே அதிகரித்து, தேசத்தின் ஜனத்துக்கு ஆகாரமில்லாமல் போயிற்று.

குழந்தைகளின் நாவு தாகத்தால் மேல் வாயோடே ஒட்டிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறது; பிள்ளைகள் அப்பங்கேட்கிறார்கள், அவர்களுக்குக் கொடுப்பாரில்லை.

உன்னிலே மூன்றில் ஒரு பங்கு கொள்ளைநோயால் சாவார்கள், பஞ்சத்தாலும் உன் நடுவிலே மடிந்துபோவார்கள்; மூன்றில் ஒரு பங்கு உன்னைச் சுற்றிலும் இருக்கிற பட்டயத்தால் வெட்டுண்டு விழுவார்கள்; மூன்றில் ஒரு பங்கை நான் சகல திசைகளிலும் சிதறிப்போகப்பண்ணி, அவர்கள் பின்னே பட்டயத்தை உருவுவேன்.

வெளியே பட்டயமும் உள்ளே கொள்ளைநோயும் பஞ்சமும் உண்டு; வயல் வெளியில் இருக்கிறவன் பட்டயத்தால் சாவான்; நகரத்தில் இருக்கிறவனையோ பஞ்சமும் கொள்ளைநோயும் பட்சிக்கும்.

ஆகையால், கர்த்தராகிய ஆண்டவர் சொல்லுகிறது என்னவென்றால்; நான் மனுஷரையும் மிருகங்களையும் நாசம்பண்ணும்படி எருசலேமுக்கு விரோதமாகப் பட்டயம், பஞ்சம், துஷ்டமிருகங்கள், கொள்ளைநோய் என்னும் இந்நான்கு கொடிய தண்டனைகளையும் அனுப்பும்போது எவ்வளவு அதிக சங்காரமாகும்?

அப்பொழுது எரேமியாவைக் காவற்சாலையின் முற்றத்திலே காக்கவும், நகரத்திலே அப்பமிருக்குமட்டும் அப்பஞ்சுடுகிறவர்களின் வீதியிலே தினம் ஒரு அப்பத்தை அவனுக்கு வாங்கிக் கொடுக்கவும் கட்டளையிட்டான்; அப்படியே எரேமியா காவற்சாலையின் முற்றத்திலே இருந்தான்.

சிதேக்கியா அரசாண்ட பதினோராம் வருஷம் நாலாம் மாதம், ஒன்பதாம் தேதியிலே நகரத்து மதிலில் திறப்புக்கண்டது.

நீ கோதுமையையும் வாற்கோதுமையையும் பெரும்பயற்றையும் சிறுபயற்றையும் தினையையும் கம்பையும் வாங்கி, அவைகளை ஒரு பாத்திரத்திலே போட்டு, அவைகளால் உனக்கு அப்பஞ்சுடுவாய்; நீ ஒருக்களித்துப் படுக்கும் நாட்களுடைய இலக்கத்தின்படியே முந்நூற்றுத்தொண்ணூறுநாள் அதில் எடுத்து சாப்பிடுவாயாக.

ஆதலால் உன் நடுவிலே பிதாக்கள் பிள்ளைகளைத் தின்பார்கள்; பிள்ளைகள் பிதாக்களைத் தின்பார்கள்; நான் உன்னில் நீதிசெலுத்தி உன்னில் மீதியாயிருப்பவர்களையெல்லாம் சகல திசைகளிலும் சிதறிப்போகப்பண்ணுவேன் என்று கர்த்தராகிய ஆண்டவர் சொல்லுகிறார்.

நாலாம் மாதத்தின் உபவாசமும், ஐந்தாம் மாதத்தின் உபாவாசமும், ஏழாம் மாதத்தின் உபவாசமும் பத்தாம் மாதத்தின் உபவாசமும், யூதா வம்சத்தாருக்கு மகிழ்ச்சியாகவும் சந்தோஷமாகவும் நல்ல பண்டிகைகளாகவும் மாறிப்போகும்; ஆகையால் சத்தியத்தையும் சமாதானத்தையும் சிநேகியுங்கள் என்று சேனைகளின் கர்த்தர் சொல்லுகிறார்.
