அப்பொழுது யோவாப் ராஜாவைப்பார்த்து: ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவனுடைய கண்கள் காணும்படி உம்முடைய தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் ஜனங்களை இப்பொழுது இருக்கிறதைப்பார்க்கிலும், நூறுமடங்கு அதிகமாய் வர்த்திக்கப்பண்ணுவாராக; ஆனாலும் என் ஆண்டவனாகிய ராஜா இந்தக் காரியத்தை விரும்புகிறது என்ன என்றான்.

அப்பொழுது யோவாப் ராஜாவைப் பார்த்து: ராஜாவான என் ஆண்டவனுடைய கண்கள் காணும்படி உம்முடைய தேவனான கர்த்தர் மக்களை இப்பொழுது இருக்கிறதைவிட, நூறுமடங்கு அதிகமாகப் பெருகச்செய்வாராக; ஆனாலும் என் ஆண்டவனான ராஜா இந்தக் காரியத்தை விரும்புகிறது என்ன என்றான்.

ஆனால் யோவாப் அரசனிடம், “எத்தனை ஆட்கள் இருக்கிறார்கள் என்பது முக்கிய மன்று. உன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர், உங்களுக்கு நூறு மடங்கு ஆட்களைத் தருவார், உங்கள் கண்கள் அவ்வாறு நடப்பதைப் பார்க்கும்! ஆனால் ஏன் இதைச் செய்ய விரும்புகிறீர்?” என்று கேட்டான்.

யோவாபு அரசரை நோக்கி, “ஆண்டவராம் கடவுள் வீரர்களை இப்போது இருப்பதைப்போல் இன்னும் நூறு மடங்கு மிகுதிப்படுத்துவாராக! என் தரைவராம் அரசர் இதைக் காண்பாராக! ஆனால், என் தலைவராம் ஆண்டவர் இதை செய்ய விரும்புவது ஏன்?’ என்று கேட்டார்.
