பொழுது இன்னும் இருக்கையில், ஜனங்கள் எல்லாரும் வந்து அப்பம் புசியும் என்று தாவீதுக்குப் சொன்னபோது, தாவீது: சூரியன் அஸ்தமிக்கிறதற்கு முன்னே நான் அப்பத்தையாகிலும், வெறெதையாகிலும் ருசிபார்த்தால் தேவன் எனக்கு அதற்குச் சரியாகவும் அதற்கு அதிகமாகவும் செய்யக்கடவர் என்று ஆணையிட்டுச் சொன்னான்.

பகலாக இருக்கும்போது, மக்கள் எல்லோரும் வந்து: அப்பம் சாப்பிடும் என்று தாவீதுக்குச் சொன்னபோது, தாவீது: சூரியன் மறைவதற்கு முன்பு நான் அப்பமாவது வேறு எதையாவது ருசி பார்த்தால், தேவன் எனக்கு அதற்குச் சரியாகவும் அதற்கு அதிகமாகவும் செய்யக்கடவர் என்று ஆணையிட்டுச் சொன்னான்.

அந்த நாள் முழுவதும் ஜனங்கள் தாவீதிடம் வந்து அப்பம் உண்ணுமாறு வற்புறுத்தினார்கள். ஆனால் தாவீது விசேஷ வாக்குறுதி செய்திருந்தான். அவன், “சூரியன் மறையும் முன்னர் நான் ரொட்டியையோ, வேறு உணவையோ உட்கொண்டால் தேவன் என்னைத் தண்டிப்பாராக” என்றான்.

பிறகு மக்கள் அனைவரும் தாவீதிடம் வந்து, பகலாக இருக்கும் போதே உண்ணும்படி அவரைத் தூண்டினர். “கதிரவன் மறைவதற்குள் நான் உணவையோ வேறு எதையோ சுவைத்தேனாகில், கடவுள்அதற்குத் தக்கவாறும் அதற்கு மேலும் என்னைத்தண்டிப்பாராக!” என்று தாவீது ஆணையிட்டுக் கூறினார்.
