ராஜா கெபியின் கிட்டவந்தபோது, துயரசத்தமாய்த் தானியேலைக் கூப்பிட்டு: தானியேலே, ஜீவனுள்ள தேவனுடைய தாசனே, நீ இடைவிடாமல் ஆராதிக்கிற உன் தேவன் உன்னைச் சிங்கங்களுக்குத் தப்புவிக்க வல்லவராயிருந்தாரா என்று தானியேலைக் கேட்டான்.

ராஜா குகையின் அருகில் வந்தபோது, துயரசத்தமாகத் தானியேலைக் கூப்பிட்டு: தானியேலே, ஜீவனுள்ள தேவனுடைய தாசனே, நீ இடைவிடாமல் ஆராதிக்கிற உன் தேவன் உன்னைச் சிங்கங்களுக்குத் தப்புவிக்க வல்லவராயிருந்தாரா என்று தானியேலைக் கேட்டான்.

அரசன் மிகத்துயரமாக இருந்தான். அவன் சிங்கங்களின் குகைக்கருகில் போய், தானியேலைக் கூப்பிட்டான். அரசன், “தானியேலே ஜீவனுள்ள தேவனுடைய ஊழியனே, நீ எப்பொழுதும் உன் தேவனுக்குச் சேவைசெய்கிறாயே, உனது தேவனால் உன்னைச் சிங்கங்களிடமிருந்து காப்பாற்ற முடிந்ததா?” என்றான்.

தானியேல் இருந்த குகையருகில் வந்தவுடன் துயரக்குரலில் அவன் தானியேலை நோக்கி, “தானியேல்! என்றுமுள கடவுளின் ஊழியனே! நீ இடைவிடாமல் வழிபடும் உன் கடவுளால் உன்னைச் சிங்கங்களினின்று விடுவிக்க முடிந்ததா?’ என்று உரக்கக் கேட்டான்.
