வானத்தின்கீழ் மனுபுத்திரர் உயிரோடிருக்கும் நாளளவும் பெற்று அநுபவிக்கத்தக்கது இன்னதென்று அறியும்பொருட்டு, என் இருதயத்தை ஞானத்தால் தேற்றிக்கொண்டிருக்கும்போதே, நான் என் தேகத்தை மதுபானத்தால் சீராட்டிக்கொண்டிருக்கவும், மதியீனத்தைப் பற்றிக்கொண்டிருக்கவும் என் உள்ளத்தில் வகைதேடினேன்.

வானத்தின்கீழ் மனுமக்கள் உயிரோடிருக்கும் நாட்களெல்லாம் பெற்று அனுபவிக்கத்தக்கது இன்னதென்று அறியும்வரை, என்னுடைய இருதயத்தை ஞானத்தால் தேற்றிக்கொண்டிருக்கும்போதே, நான் என்னுடைய உடலை மதுபானத்தால் சீராட்டிக்கொண்டிருக்கவும், மதியீனத்தைப் பற்றிக்கொண்டிருக்கவும் என்னுடைய உள்ளத்தில் வகைதேடினேன்.

எனவே என் மனதை ஞானத்தால் நிரப்பும்போது என் உடலை திராட்சைரசத்தால் நிரப்ப முடிவு செய்தேன். இந்த முட்டாள் தனத்தை நான் முயற்சி செய்தேன். ஏனென்றால் நான் மகிழ்ச்சியடைவதற்குரிய வழியைக் கண்டுபிடிக்க எண்ணினேன். ஜனங்களின் குறுகிய வாழ்வில் அவர்கள் என்ன நன்மை செய்யக்கூடும் என்று பார்க்க விரும்பினேன்.

திருவிவிலியம்
இன்பம் நன்மை பயக்காது என்றேன். ஞானத்தின் மீதுள்ள ஆவலை விட்டுவிடாமலே, மதுவால் உடலுக்குக் களிப்பூட்டவும் மதிகெட்ட திட்டத்தில் ஈடுபடவும் தலைப்பட்டேன்; மக்கள் தங்கள் குறுகிய உலக வாழ்க்கையில் செய்யக்கூடிய நலமான செயல் எதுவென்று அறிவதற்காக இவ்வாறு செய்யலானேன்;
