நான் திரும்பிக்கொண்டு சூரியனுக்குக் கீழே கண்டதாவது: ஓடுகிறதற்கு வேகமுள்ளவர்களின் வேகமும், யுத்தத்துக்குச் சவுரியவான்களின் சவுரியமும் போதாது; பிழைப்புக்கு ஞானமுள்ளவர்களின் ஞானமும் போதாது; ஐசுவரியமடைகிறதற்குப் புத்திமான்களின் புத்தியும் போதாது; தயவு அடைகிறதற்கு வித்துவான்களின் அறிவும் போதாது; அவர்களெல்லாருக்கும் சமயமும் தேவச்செயலும் நேரிடவேண்டும்.

உலகில் வேறொன்றையும் கண்டேன்; ஓட்டப் பந்தயத்தில் விரைவாக ஓடுபவரே வெற்றி பெறுவார் என்பதில்லை. வலிமை வாய்ந்தவரே போரில் வெற்றி அடைவார் என்பதில்லை. ஞானமுள்ளவருக்கு வேலை கிடைக்கும் என்பதில்லை. அறிவுள்ளவரே செல்வம் சேர்ப்பார் என்பதில்லை. திறமையுடையவரே பதவியில் உயர்வார் என்பதில்லை. எவருக்கும் வேளையும் வாய்ப்பும் செம்மையாய் அமையவேண்டும்.
