யாத்திராகமம் 15:23
அவர்கள் மாராவிலே வந்தபோது, மாராவின் தண்ணீர் கசப்பாயிருந்ததினால் அதைக் குடிக்க அவர்களுக்குக் கூடாதிருந்தது; அதினால் அவ்விடத்துக்கு மாரா என்று பேரிடப்பட்டது.

மூன்று நாட்களுக்குப் பின் ஜனங்கள் மாராவிற்கு வந்தனர். மாராவில் தண்ணீர் இருந்தது. ஆனால் குடிக்க முடியாதபடி கசப்பாக இருந்தது. (இதனால் அந்த இடம் மாரா என்று அழைக்கப்பட்டது)

பின்னர் அவர்கள் மாராவைச் சென்றடைந்தனர். மாராவிலிருந்த தண்ணீரைப் பருக அவர்களால் இயலவில்லை. அது கசப்பாக இருந்தது. இதனால்தான் அவ்விடத்திற்கு ‛மாரா’* என்ற பெயர் வழங்கியது.
