ஆகையால், கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியில் எங்கள் ஆத்துமாக்களுக்காகப் பாவநிவிர்த்தி செய்யும்பொருட்டு, எங்களுக்குக் கிடைத்த பொற்பணிகளாகிய பாதசரங்களையும், அஸ்தகடகங்களையும், மோதிரங்களையும், காதணிகளையும், காப்புகளையும் கர்த்தருக்குக் காணிக்கையாகக் கொண்டுவந்தோம் என்றார்கள்.

கர்த்தருடைய கோபம் திரும்ப இஸ்ரவேலின்மேல் மூண்டது. இஸ்ரவேல் யூதா என்பவர்களை இலக்கம் பார் என்று அவர்களுக்கு விரோதமாய்ச் சொல்லுகிறதற்கு தாவீது ஏவப்பட்டான்.

மூன்று வருஷத்துப் பஞ்சமோ? அல்லது உன் பகைஞரின் பட்டயம் உன்னைப் பின்தொடர நீ உன் சத்துருக்களுக்கு முன்பாக முறிந்தோடிப்போகச் செய்யும் மூன்று மாதச் சங்காரமோ? அல்லது மூன்றுநாள் கர்த்தருடைய தூதன் இஸ்ரவேலுடைய எல்லையெங்கும் சங்காரம் உண்டாகும்படி தேசத்தில் நிற்கும் கர்த்தருடைய பட்டயமாகிய கொள்ளை நோயோ? இவைகளில் ஒன்றைத் தெரிந்துகொள் என்று கர்த்தர் உரைக்கிறார். இப்போதும் என்னை அனுப்பினவருக்கு நான் என்ன மறுஉத்தரவு கொண்டுபோகவேண்டும் என்பதை யோசித்துப்பாரும் என்றான்.

ஆகையால் கர்த்தர் இஸ்ரவேலிலே கொள்ளைநோயை வரப்பண்ணினார், அதினால் இஸ்ரவேலில் எழுபதினாயிரம்பேர் மடிந்தார்கள்.

செருயாவின் குமாரன் யோவாப் எண்ணத்துவக்கியும் முடிக்காதேபோனான்; அதற்காக இஸ்ரவேலின்மேல் கடுங்கோபம் வந்தது; ஆதலால் அந்தத்தொகை தாவீது ராஜாவின் நாளாகமக்கணக்கிலே ஏறவில்லை.
