துன்மார்க்கன் சாகிறது எனக்கு எவ்வளவேனும் பிரியமோ? அவன் தன் வழிகளை விட்டுத் திரும்பிப் பிழைப்பது அல்லவோ எனக்குப் பிரியம் என்று கர்த்தராகிய ஆண்டவர் சொல்லுகிறார்.

மனந்திரும்புங்கள், அப்பொழுது பிழைப்பீர்கள்; சாகிறவனுடைய சாவை நான் விரும்புகிறதில்லை என்று கர்த்தராகிய ஆண்டவர் சொல்லுகிறார்.

கர்த்தராகிய ஆண்டவர் உரைக்கிறது என்னவென்றால் நான் துன்மார்க்கனுடைய மரணத்தை விரும்பாமல், துன்மார்க்கன் தன் வழியைவிட்டுத் திரும்பிப் பிழைப்பதையே விரும்புகிறேன் என்று என் ஜீவனைக்கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன்; இஸ்ரவேல் வம்சத்தாரே, உங்கள் பொல்லாத வழிகளைவிட்டுத் திரும்புங்கள், திரும்புங்கள்; நீங்கள் ஏன் சாகவேண்டும் என்கிறார் என்று அவர்களோடே சொல்லு.

எல்லா மனுஷரும் இரட்சிக்கப்படவும், சத்தியத்தை அறிகிற அறிவை அடையவும், அவர் சித்தமுள்ளவராயிருக்கிறார்.

தாமதிக்கிறார் என்று சிலர் எண்ணுகிறபடி கர்த்தர் தமது வாக்குத்தத்தத்தைக்குறித்துத் தாமதமாயிராமல்; ஒருவரும் கெட்டுப்போகாமல் எல்லாரும் மனந்திரும்பவேண்டுமென்று விரும்பி, நம்மேல் நீடிய பொறுமையுள்ளவராயிருக்கிறார்.

தமக்குப் பயந்து, தமது கிருபைக்குக் காத்திருக்கிறவர்கள்மேல் கர்த்தர் பிரியமாயிருக்கிறார்.

தமது சுதந்தரத்தில் மீதியானவர்களுடைய அக்கிரமத்தைப் பொறுத்து, மீறுதலை மன்னிக்கிற தேவரீருக்கு ஒப்பான தேவன் யார்? அவர் கிருபைசெய்ய விரும்புகிறபடியால் அவர் என்றென்றைக்கும் கோபம் வையார்.

கர்த்தர் அவனுக்கு முன்பாகக் கடந்துபோகிறபோது, அவர்: கர்த்தர், கர்த்தர்; இரக்கமும், கிருபையும், நீடிய சாந்தமும், மகா தயையும், சத்தியமுமுள்ள தேவன்.

அவன் மனுஷரை நோக்கிப்பார்த்து; நான் பாவஞ்செய்து செம்மையானதைப் புரட்டினேன், அது எனக்குப் பிரயோஜனமாயிருக்கவில்லை.

எப்பிராயீம் எனக்கு அருமையான குமாரன் அல்லவோ? அவன் எனக்குப் பிரியமான பிள்ளையல்லவோ? அவனுக்கு விரோதமாய்ப்பேசினது முதல் அவனை நினைத்துக்கொண்டே இருக்கிறேன்; ஆகையால் என் உள்ளம் அவனுக்காகக் கொதிக்கிறது; அவனுக்கு உருக்கமாய் இரங்குவேன் என்று கர்த்தர் சொல்லுகிறார்

எப்பிராயீமே, நான் உன்னை எப்படிக் கைவிடுவேன்? இஸ்ரவேலே, நான் உன்னை எப்படி ஒப்புக்கொடுப்பேன்? நான் உன்னை எப்படி அத்மாவைப்போலாக்குவேன்? உன்னை எப்படி செபோயீமைப்போல வைப்பேன்? என் இருதயம் எனக்குள் குழம்புகிறது; என் பரிதாபங்கள் ஏகமாய்ப் பொங்குகிறது.

உங்களில் ஒரு மனுஷன் நூறு ஆடுகளை உடையவனாயிருந்து, அவைககளில் ஒன்று காணாமற்போனால், தொண்ணூற்றொன்பது ஆடுகளையும் வனாந்தரத்திலே விட்டு, காணாமற்போன ஆட்டைக் கண்டுபிடிக்குமளவும் தேடித்திரியானோ?

அதுபோல மனந்திரும்புகிற ஒரே பாவியினிமித்தம் தேவனுடைய தூதர்களுக்கு முன்பாகச் சந்தோஷமுண்டாயிருக்கிறது என்று உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன் என்றார்.

அப்பொழுது தகப்பன் தன் ஊழியக்காரரை நோக்கி: நீங்கள் உயர்ந்த வஸ்திரத்தைக் கொண்டுவந்து, இவனுக்கு உடுத்தி, இவன் கைக்கு மோதிரத்தையும் கால்களுக்குப் பாதரட்சைகளையும் போடுங்கள்.

உன் சகோதரனாகிய இவனோ மரித்தான், திரும்பவும் உயிர்த்தான்; காணாமற்போனான், திரும்பவும் காணப்பட்டான்; ஆனபடியினாலே, நாம் சந்தோஷப்பட்டு மகிழ்ச்சியாயிருக்க வேண்டுமே என்று சொன்னான் என்றார்.

ஏனென்றால், இரக்கஞ்செய்யாதவனுக்கு இரக்கமில்லாத நியாயத்தீர்ப்புக் கிடைக்கும்; நியாயத்தீர்ப்புக்கு முன்பாக இரக்கம் மேன்மைபாராட்டும்.
