காவற்காரன் பட்டயம் வருவதைக் கண்டும், அவன் எக்காளம் ஊதாமலும் ஜனங்கள் எச்சரிக்கப்படாமலும், பட்டயம் வந்து அவர்களில் யாதொருவனை வாரிக்கொள்ளுகிறது உண்டானால், அவன் தன் அக்கிரமத்திலே வாரிக்கொள்ளப்பட்டான்; ஆனாலும் அவன் இரத்தப்பழியைக் காவற்காரன் கையிலே கேட்பேன்.

காவற்காரன் வாள் வருவதைக் கண்டும், அவன் எக்காளம் ஊதாமலும் மக்கள் எச்சரிக்கப்படாமலும், வாள் வந்து அவர்களில் யாராவது ஒருவனை வாரிக்கொள்ளுகிறது உண்டானால், அவன் தன்னுடைய அக்கிரமத்திலே வாரிக்கொள்ளப்பட்டான்; ஆனாலும் அவன் இரத்தப்பழியைக் காவற்காரன் கையிலே கேட்பேன்.

“‘ஆனால் காவல்காரன் பகை வீரர்கள் வருவதைக் கண்டும் அவன் எக்காளம் ஊதவில்லை என்றால், அவன் ஜனங்களை எச்சரிக்கவில்லை, பகைவன் அவர்களைக் கைப்பற்றிச் சிறையெடுத்துச் செல்வான். அந்த மனிதன் கொல்லப்படலாம். ஏனென்றால், அவன் பாவம் செய்திருக்கிறான். ஆனால் காவல்காரனும் அந்த ஆளின் மரணத்திற்குப் பொறுப்பாளி ஆவான்.’

ஆனால், அந்தக் காவலாளி வாள் வருவதைக் கண்டும் எக்காளம் ஊதாமல் இருந்து, அதன் மூலம் மக்கள் எச்சரிக்கைப்படாமல் இருக்கையில், வாள் வந்து அவர்களுள் எவரையாவது வீழ்த்தும்போது, அவர் தம் குற்றத்திலிருந்து வீழ்த்தப்பட்டிருப்பினும், அவரது இரத்தப்பழியை நான் காவலாளியின் மேல் சுமத்துவேன்.⒫

But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman’s hand.
