இஸ்ரவேலர் விதை விதைத்திருக்கும் போது, மீதியானியரும் அமலேக்கியரும் கிழக்கத்திப் புத்திரரும் அவர்களுக்கு விரோதமாய் எழும்பி வந்து;

மீதியானியரும் அமலேக்கியரும் கிழக்கத்திப் புத்திரர் யாவரும் ஏகமாய்க்கூடி, ஆற்றைக் கடந்துவந்து, யெஸ்ரயேல் பள்ளத்தாக்கிலே பாளயமிறங்கினார்கள்.

அப்பொழுது அவன் தன் வாக்கியத்தை எடுத்துரைத்து: மோவாபின் ராஜாவாகிய பாலாக் என்னைக் கிழக்கு மலைகளிலுள்ள ஆராமிலிருந்து வரவழைத்து: நீ வந்து எனக்காக யாக்கோபைச் சபிக்கவேண்டும்; நீ வந்து இஸ்ரவேலை வெறுத்து விடவேண்டும் என்று சொன்னான்.

இந்தக்காரியங்கள் நடந்தபின்பு, ஒருவன் ஆபிரகாமிடத்தில் வந்து: மில்க்காளும் உன் சகோதரனாகிய நாகோருக்குப் பிள்ளைகளைப் பெற்றாள்;

பின்பு அந்த ஊழியக்காரன் தன் எஜமானுடைய ஒட்டகங்களில் பத்து ஒட்டகங்களைத் தன்னுடனே கொண்டுபோனான்; தன் எஜமானுடைய சகலவித உச்சிதமான பொருள்களும் அவன் கையில் இருந்தன; அவன் எழுந்து புறப்பட்டுப்போய், மெசொப்பொத்தாமியாவிலே நாகோருடைய ஊரில் சேர்ந்து,

ஈசாக்கு ரெபெக்காளை விவாகம்பண்ணுகிறபோது நாற்பது வயதாயிருந்தான்; இவள் பதான்அராம் என்னும் சீரியா தேசத்தானாகிய லாபானுக்குச் சகோதரியுமானவள்.

ஈசாக்கு யாக்கோபை அனுப்பிவிட்டான். அப்பொழுது அவன் பதான் அராமிலிருக்கும் சீரியா தேசத்தானாகிய பெத்துவேலுடைய குமாரனும், தனக்கும் ஏசாவுக்கும் தாயாகிய ரெபெக்காளின் சகோதரனுமான லாபானிடத்துக்குப் போகப் புறப்பட்டான்.

மீதியானியரும், அமலேக்கியரும், சகல கிழக்கத்திப் புத்திரரும், வெட்டுக் கிளிகளைப் போலத் திரளாய்ப் பள்ளத்தாக்கிலே படுத்துக்கிடந்தார்கள்; அவர்களுடைய ஒட்டகங்களுக்கும் கணக்கில்லை, கடற்கரை மணலைப்போலத் திரளாயிருந்தது.

சேபாவும் சல்முனாவும் அவர்களோடேகூட அவர்களுடைய சேனைகளும் ஏறக்குறைய பதினையாயிரம் பேர் கர்கோரில் இருந்தார்கள்; பட்டயம் உருவத்தக்க லட்சத்து இருபதினாயிரம் பேர் விழுந்தபடியால், கிழக்கத்தியாரின் சகல சேனையிலும் இவர்கள் மாத்திரம் மீந்திருந்தார்கள்.

சகல கிழக்கத்திப் புத்திரரின் ஞானத்தையும் எகிப்தியரின் சகல ஞானத்தையும் பார்க்கிலும் சாலொமோனின் ஞானம் சிறந்ததாயிருந்தது.

நீர் என் இருதயத்தை விசாலமாக்கும்போது நான் உமது கற்பனைகளின் வழியாக ஓடுவேன்.

உமது கற்பனைகளைக் கைக்கொள்ளும்படி நான் தாமதியாமல் தீவிரித்தேன்.

நீ போய், உன் ஆகாரத்தைச் சந்தோஷத்துடன் புசித்து, உன் திராட்சரசத்தை மனமகிழ்ச்சியுடன் குடி; தேவன் உன் கிரியைகளை அங்கீகாரம்பண்ணியிருக்கிறார்.

யாக்கோபு சீரியாதேசத்துக்கு ஓடிப்போய், இஸ்ரவேல் ஒரு பெண்ணுக்காக ஊழியஞ்செய்து, ஒரு பெண்ணுக்காக ஆடு மேய்த்தான்.
