பின்பு தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர்: இதோ, மனுஷன் நன்மை தீமை அறியத்தக்கவனாய் நம்மில் ஒருவரைப்போல் ஆனான்; இப்பொழுதும் அவன் தன் கையை நீட்டி ஜீவவிருட்சத்தின் கனியையும் பறித்து, புசித்து, என்றைக்கும் உயிரோடிராதபடிக்குச் செய்யவேண்டும் என்று,

பின்பு தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர், “இதோ, நன்மை தீமை அறிந்தவனாக மனிதன் நம்மில் ஒருவரைப்போல் ஆனான். இப்பொழுது மனிதன் ஜீவமரத்தின் பழத்தை எடுத்து உண்டால் என்றென்றும் உயிருடன் இருப்பான்” என்றார்.

பின்பு, ஆண்டவராகிய கடவுள், “மனிதன் இப்பொழுது நம்முள் ஒருவர் போல் நன்மை தீமை அறிந்தவன் ஆகிவிட்டான். இனி அவன் என்றென்றும் வாழ்வதற்காக, வாழ்வின் மரத்திலிருந்தும் பறித்து உண்ணக் கையை நீட்டிவிடக் கூடாது” என்றார்.
