நீ தூணுக்கு அபிஷேகம் செய்து, எனக்கு ஒரு பொருத்தனையைப் பண்ணின பெத்தேலிலே உனக்குத் தரிசனமான தேவன் நானே; இப்பொழுது நீ எழுந்து, இந்தத் தேசத்தைவிட்டுப் புறப்பட்டு, உன் இனத்தாரிருக்கிற தேசத்திற்குத் திரும்பிப்போ என்று சொன்னார் என்றான்.

அப்பொழுது நீ கூப்பிடுவாய், கர்த்தர் மறுஉத்தரவு கொடுப்பார்; நீ சத்தமிடுவாய்: இதோ, நான் இருக்கிறேன் என்று சொல்லுவார். நுகத்தடியையும் விரல் நீட்டுதலையும் நிபச்சொல்லையும், நீ உன் நடுவிலிருந்து அகற்றி,

கர்த்தருடைய தூதனானவர் அவளை வனாந்தரத்திலே சூருக்குப்போகிற வழியருகே இருக்கிற நீரூற்றண்டையில் கண்டு:

பின்பு, கர்த்தர் மம்ரேயின் சமபூமியிலே அவனுக்குத் தரிசனமானார். அவன் பகலின் உஷ்ணவேளையில் கூடாரவாசலிலே உட்கார்ந்திருந்து,

அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர்: ஆபிரகாம் பெரிய பலத்த ஜாதியாவதினாலும், அவனுக்குள் பூமியிலுள்ள சகல ஜாதிகளும் ஆசீர்வதிக்கப்படுவதினாலும்,

இந்தக் காரியங்கள் நடந்தபின்பு, தேவன் ஆபிரகாமைச் சோதித்தார்; எப்படியெனில், அவர் அவனை நோக்கி: ஆபிரகாமே என்றார்; அவன்: இதோ அடியேன் என்றான்.

அவர்களை நோக்கி: உங்கள் தகப்பனுடைய முகம் நேற்று முந்தைநாள் இருந்ததுபோல இருக்கவில்லையென்று எனக்குத் தோன்றுகிறது; ஆனாலும் என் தகப்பனுடைய தேவன் என்னோடேகூட இருக்கிறார்.

அவன் யோசேப்பை ஆசீர்வதித்து: என் பிதாக்களாகிய ஆபிரகாமும் ஈசாக்கும் வழிபட்டு வணங்கிய தேவனும், நான் பிறந்த நாள்முதல் இந்நாள்வரைக்கும் என்னை ஆதரித்துவந்த தேவனும்,

அவன் பார்க்கும்படி கிட்ட வருகிறதைக் கர்த்தர் கண்டார். முட்செடியின் நடுவிலிருந்து தேவன் அவனை நோக்கி: மோசே, மோசே என்று கூப்பிட்டார். அவன்: இதோ, அடியேன் என்றான்.

அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர், சாமுவேலைக் கூப்பிட்டார். அதற்கு அவன்: இதோ, இருக்கிறேன் என்று சொல்லி,

மறுபடியும் கர்த்தர் சாமுவேலே என்று கூப்பிட்டார்; அப்பொழுது சாமுவேல் எழுந்திருந்து ஏலியினிடத்தில் போய்: இதோ, இருக்கிறேன்; என்னைக் கூப்பிட்டீரே என்றான். அதற்கு அவன்: என் மகனே, நான் உன்னைக் கூப்பிடவில்லை. திரும்பிப்போய்ப் படுத்துக்கொள் என்றான்.

கர்த்தர் மறுபடியும் மூன்றாம்விசை: சாமுவேலே என்று கூப்பிட்டார். அவன் எழுந்திருந்து ஏலியினிடத்தில் போய், இதோ, இருக்கிறேன்; என்னைக் கூப்பிட்டீரே என்றான். அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் பிள்ளையாண்டானைக் கூப்பிடுகிறார் என்று ஏலி அறிந்து,

ஏலியோ: சாமுவேலே, என் மகனே என்று சாமுவேலைக் கூப்பிட்டான். அவன்: இதோ, இருக்கிறேன் என்றான்.
