யாக்கோபு சுக்கோத்துக்குப் பிரயாணம்பண்ணி, தனக்கு ஒரு வீடு கட்டி, தன் மிருகஜீவன்களுக்குக் கொட்டாரங்களைப் போட்டான்; அதினாலே அந்த ஸ்தலத்துக்குச் சுக்கோத் என்று பேரிட்டான்.

ஆனால் யாக்கோபோ சுக்கோத்திற்குப் பயணம் செய்தான். அங்கே அவன் தனக்கென்று வீடு கட்டிக்கொண்டதுடன், மிருகங்களுக்கும் தொழுவம் அமைத்துக்கொண்டான். எனவே அந்த இடம் சுக்கோத் என்று பெயர் பெற்றது.

யாக்கோபு சுக்கோத்தை வந்தடைந்தவுடன், அங்கே தமக்கென்று ஒரு வீடு கட்டினார். தம் மந்தைகளுக்குக் குடில்களை அமைத்தார். இதனால் அந்த இடத்திற்குச் ‘சுக்கோத்து’* என்று பெயரிட்டார்.⒫
