நான் பதானைவிட்டு வருகையில், கானான் தேசத்தில் எப்பிராத்தாவுக்குக் கொஞ்சம் தூரம் இருக்கும்போது, வழியிலே ராகேல் என்னண்டையிலே மரணமடைந்தாள்; அவளை அங்கே பெத்லகேம் என்னும் எப்பிராத்தா ஊருக்குப் போகிற வழியிலே அடக்கம்பண்ணினேன் என்றான்.

நான் பதானை விட்டு வருகையில், கானான்தேசத்தில் எப்பிராத்தாவுக்குக் கொஞ்சம் தூரம் இருக்கும்போது, வழியிலே ராகேல் என்னருகில் மரணமடைந்தாள்; அவளை அங்கே பெத்லகேம் என்னும் எப்பிராத்தா ஊருக்குப் போகிற வழியிலே அடக்கம்செய்தேன் என்றான்.

பதான் அராமிலிருந்து வரும்போது ராகேல் மரித்துப்போனாள். அது என்னை மிகவும் வருத்தத்திற்குள்ளாக்கியது. அவள் கானான் நாட்டிலேயே மரித்தாள். நாங்கள் எப்பிராத்தாவை நோக்கி வந்தோம். சாலையோரத்தில் அவளை அடக்கம் செய்தோம்” என்றான். (எப்பிராத்தா என்பது பெத்லகேமைக் குறிக்கும்.)

ஏனெனில், நான் பதானைவிட்டு வரும்பொழுது, வழியில் ராகேல் கானான் நாட்டில் இறந்து என்னைத் துயரத்தில் ஆழ்த்தினாள். அப்பொழுது நான் எப்ராத்துக்கு அருகில் இருந்தேன். எப்ராத்துக்கு அதாவது பெத்லகேமுக்குப் போகும் வழியில் அவளை அடக்கம் செய்தேன்” என்றார்.⒫

And as for me, when I came from Padan, Rachel died by me in the land of Canaan in the way, when yet there was but a little way to come unto Ephrath: and I buried her there in the way of Ephrath; the same is Bethlehem.

And as for me, when I came from Paddan, Rachel died by me in the land of Canaan in the way, when there was still some distance to come unto Ephrath: and I buried her there in the way to Ephrath (the same is Beth-lehem).
