அவன் தாயின் கர்ப்பத்திலே தன் சகோதரனுடைய குதிகாலைப் பிடித்தான், தன் பெலத்தினால் தேவனோடே போராடினான்.

யாக்போபு இன்னும் தன் தாயின் வயிற்றில் இருக்கும்போதே தன் சகோதரனோடு தந்திரம் செய்யத் தொடங்கினான். யாக்கோபு ஒரு பலமான இளைஞனாக இருந்தான். அந்தக் காலத்தில் அவன் தேவனோடு போராடினான்.
