அவன் தன் தேவனாகிய நிஸ்ரோகின் கோவிலிலே பணிந்துகொள்ளுகிறபோது, அவன் குமாரராகிய அத்ரமலேக்கும் சரேத்சேரும் அவனைப் பட்டயத்தினால் வெட்டிப்போட்டு, அரராத் தேசத்துக்குத் தப்பி ஓடிப்போனார்கள்; அவன் குமாரனாகிய எசரத்தோன் அவன் பட்டத்திற்கு வந்து அரசாண்டான்.

அவன் தன் தேவனாகிய நிஸ்ரோகின் கோவிலிலே பணிந்துகொள்ளுகிறபோது, அவன் மகன்களாகிய அத்ரமலேக்கும் சரேத்சேரும் அவனைப் பட்டயத்தினால் வெட்டிப்போட்டு, அரராத் தேசத்திற்குத் தப்பி ஓடிப்போனார்கள்; அவன் மகனாகிய எசரத்தோன் அவன் பட்டத்திற்கு வந்து ஆட்சிசெய்தான்.

ஒரு நாள், சனகெரிப் அவனது தேவனான நிஸ்ரோகின் ஆலயத்தில் தொழுகை செய்வதற்காக இருந்தான். அந்த நேரத்தில் அவனது இரண்டு மகன்களான அத்ரமலேக்கும் சரேத்சேரும் அவனை வாளால் வெட்டிக் கொன்றனர். பிறகு, அந்த மகன்கள் அரராத்துக்கு ஓடிப் போனார்கள். எனவே, அசீரியாவின் புதிய அரசனாகச் சனகெரிப்பின் மகனான எசரத்தோன் வந்தான்.

ஒருநாள் அவன் நிஸ்ரோக்கு என்னும் தன் தெய்வத்தின் கோவிலில் வழிபாடு செய்து கொண்டிருந்தபோது அதிரமெலக்கு, சரேட்சர் என்ற அவன் புதல்வர்கள் வாள்முனையில் அவனைக் கொன்றுவிட்டு அரராத்து நாட்டிற்குத் தப்பியோடினர். அவனுக்குப்பின் ஏசர்கத்தோன் என்ற அவன் மகன் ஆட்சி செய்தான்.
