அவர்கள் என் வார்த்தைகளைக் கேட்கமாட்டோமென்று அந்நிய தேவர்களைச் சேவிக்க அவைகளைப் பின்பற்றி, தங்களுடைய முன்னோர்களின் அக்கிரமங்களுக்குத் திரும்பினார்கள்; நான் தங்கள் பிதாக்களோடே பண்ணின உடன்படிக்கையை இஸ்ரவேல் குடும்பத்தாரும் யூதா குடும்பத்தாரும் மீறிப்போட்டார்கள்.

அவர்கள் என் வார்த்தைகளைக் கேட்கமாட்டோமென்று அந்நிய தெய்வங்களைச் சேவிக்க அவைகளைப் பின்பற்றி, தங்களுடைய முன்னோர்களின் அக்கிரமங்களுக்குத் திரும்பினார்கள்; நான் தங்கள் பிதாக்களுடன் செய்த உடன்படிக்கையை இஸ்ரவேல் குடும்பத்தாரும் யூதா குடும்பத்தாரும் மீறிப்போட்டார்கள்.

அந்த ஜனங்கள் தம் முற்பிதாக்கள் செய்த அதே பாவங்களைச் செய்கிறார்கள். அவர்களின் முற்பிதாக்கள் எனது செய்தியை கேட்க மறுத்தனர். அவர்கள் அந்நிய தெய்வங்களை தொழுதுகொள்ளவும், பின்பற்றவும் செய்தனர். நான் அவர்களது முற்பிதாக்களோடு செய்த உடன்படிக்கையை இஸ்ரவேலின் குடும்பத்தாரும், யூதாவின் குடும்பத்தாரும், உடைத்துவிட்டனர்” என்று கூறினார்.

என் சொற்களுக்குச் செவிசாய்க்க மறுத்து, முன்பு தம் மூதாதையர் செய்த குற்றங்களை இவர்களும் செய்தார்கள். வேற்றுத் தெய்வங்களுக்குப்பின் திரிந்து, அவற்றுக்கு ஊழியம் செய்து, நான் அவர்கள் மூதாதையரோடு செய்த உடன்படிக்கையை இஸ்ரயேல் வீட்டாரும் யூதாவின் வீட்டாரும் முறித்துவிட்டனர்.
