கர்த்தரின் கோபத்தினாலே அது குடியற்றதும் பெரும்பாழுமாயிருக்கும்; பாபிலோனைக் கடந்துபோகிற எவனும் அதின் எல்லா வாதைகளினிமித்தமும் பிரமித்து, ஈசல்போடுவான்.

நான் சேயீர்மலையைப் பாழும் அவாந்தர இடமுமாக்கி, அதிலே போக்குவரவு செய்வார் இல்லாதபடி சங்காரஞ்செய்து,

போஸ்றா பாழும் நிந்தையும் அவாந்தரமும் சாபமுமாக இருக்குமென்றும், அதின் பட்டணங்கள் எல்லாம் நித்திய வனாந்தரங்களாயிருக்குமென்றும் என்னைக்கொண்டு ஆணையிட்டேன் என்று கர்த்தர் சொல்லுகிறார்.

அப்பொழுது உன்னதமாயிருக்கிற இந்த ஆலயத்தைக் கடந்துபோகிறவன் எவனும் பிரமித்து, பகிடியாய் ஈசலிட்டு; கர்த்தர் இந்த தேசத்துக்கும் இந்த ஆலயத்துக்கும் இப்படிச் செய்தது என்ன? என்று கேட்பார்கள்.

நான் அவர்களுடைய தேசத்தைப் பாழாக்கவும், என்றென்றைக்கும் ஈசலிட்டு நிந்திக்கும் நிந்தையாக்கவும் செய்யும்படி இப்படிச் செய்கிறார்கள்; அதைக் கடந்துபோகிற எவனும் பிரமித்து, தன் தலையைத் துலுக்குவான்.

அப்பொழுது பாபிலோன் குடியில்லாத மண்மேடுகளும், வலுசர்ப்பங்களின் தாபரமும், பாழும், ஈசல்போடப்படுதலுக்கு இடமுமாய்ப்போகும்.

நான் அவர்களுக்குக் கொடுத்த என் தேசத்தில் இருந்து அவர்களைப் பிடுங்கி, என் நாமத்திற்கென்று நான் பரிசுத்தப்படுத்தின இந்த ஆலயத்தை என் சமுகத்தினின்று தள்ளி, அதை எல்லா ஜனசதளங்களுக்குள்ளும் பழமொழியாகவும் வசைச்சொல்லாகவும் வைப்பேன்.

அதின் ஆறுகள் பிசினாகவும், அதின் மண் கந்தகமாகவும் மாறி, அதின் நிலம் எரிகிற கீலாய்ப்போம்.

வழிப்போக்கர் யாவரும் உன்பேரில் கை கொட்டுகிறார்கள்; எருசலேம் குமாரத்தியின்பேரில் ஈசற்போட்டு, தங்கள் தலைகளைத் துலுக்கி: பூரணவடிவும் சர்வபூமியின் மகிழ்ச்சியுமான நகரம் இதுதானா என்கிறார்கள்.

கர்த்தராகிய ஆண்டவர் சொல்லுகிறார்: நான் ஏதோம் தேசத்துக்கு விரோதமாக என் கையை நீட்டி அதில் மனுஷரையும் மிருகங்களையும் இராதபடிக்குச் சங்காரம்பண்ணி, அதைத் தேமான் துவக்கித் தேதான்மட்டும் வனாந்தரமாக்குவேன்; பட்டயத்தால் விழுவார்கள்.

இஸ்ரவேல் வம்சத்தாரின் சுதந்தரம் பாழாய்ப்போனதைக் கண்டு மகிழ்ந்தாயே, உனக்கும் அப்படியே சம்பவிக்கச்செய்வேன்; சேயீர் மலையே, ஏதோமே, நீ முழுதும் பாழாவாய்; அதினால் நான் கர்த்தர் என்று அறிந்துகொள்வார்களென்று உரைத்தார் என்று சொல்லு.

நான் உன்னைப் பாழாகவும் உன் குடிகளை ஈசலிட்டு நிந்திக்கிற நிந்தையாகவும் வைக்கும்படி, உம்ரியினுடைய கட்டளைகளும் ஆகாப் வீட்டாருடைய எல்லாச் செய்கைகளும் கைக்கொள்ளப்பட்டுவருகிறது; அவர்களுடைய ஆலோசனைகளிலே நடக்கிறீர்கள்; ஆகையால் என் ஜனத்தின் நிந்தையைச் சுமப்பீர்கள்.

நான்தான், என்னைத் தவிர வேறொருவரும் இல்லை என்று தன் இருதயத்தில் சொல்லி, நிர்விசாரமாய் வாழ்ந்து களிகூர்ந்திருந்த நகரம் இதுவே; இது பாழும் மிருகஜீவன்களின் தாபரமுமாய்ப்போய்விட்டதே! அதின் வழியாய்ப்போகிறவன் எவனும் ஈசல் போட்டுத் தன் கையைக் கொட்டுவான்.
