நான் ஆழத்தை நோக்கி: வற்றிப்போ என்றும், உன் நதிகளை வெட்டாந்தரையாக்குவேன் என்றும் சொல்லுகிறவர்.

பாபிலோன் பிடிபட்டது; பேல் வெட்கப்பட்டது; மேராதாக் நொறுங்குண்டது; அதினுடைய சிலைகள் இலச்சையடைந்தது; அதினுடைய விக்கிரகங்கள் நொறுங்கிப்போயின என்று ஜாதிகளுக்குள்ளே அறிவித்துப் பிரசித்தம்பண்ணுங்கள்; இதை மறைக்காமல் கொடியேற்றி விளம்பரம்பண்ணுங்கள்.

ஆகையால், இதோ, நான் பாபிலோனின் விக்கிரகங்களை தண்டிக்கும் நாட்கள் வரும், அப்பொழுது அதின் தேசம் எல்லாம் கலங்கும்; அதில் கொலையுண்கிற யாவரும் அதின் நடுவில் விழுந்துகிடப்பார்கள்.

சித்திரக்காரனுக்கு அவன் செய்த சுரூபமும், ஊமையான தெய்வங்களை உண்டுபண்ணித் தான் உருவாக்கின சுரூபத்தை நம்பினவனுக்கு வார்க்கப்பட்டதும் பொய்ப்போதகம் பண்ணுகிறதுமான விக்கிரகமும் என்னத்துக்கு உதவும்?

அத்தேனே பட்டணத்தில் பவுல் அவர்களுக்காகக் காத்துக்கொண்டிருக்கையில், அந்தப் பட்டணம் விக்கிரகங்களால் நிறைந்திருக்கிறதைக் கண்டு, தன் ஆவியில் மிகுந்த வைராக்கியமடைந்து,
