அவர்மேல் குற்றஞ்சுமத்துவதற்கான காரணம் உண்டாகும்பொருட்டு அவரைச் சோதிக்கும்படி இப்படிச் சொன்னார்கள். இயேசுவோ குனிந்து, விரலினால் தரையிலே எழுதினார்.

யூதர்கள் இந்தக் கேள்வியை இயேசுவைச் சோதிப்பதற்காகக் கேட்டனர். இயேசுவின் மீது ஏதாவது குற்றம் சுமத்தவே அவர்கள் விரும்பினர். ஆனால் இயேசுவோ குனிந்து தரையில் தன் விரலால் ஏதோ எழுதிக்கொண்டிருந்தார்.

அவர்மேல் குற்றம் சுமத்த ஏதாவது வேண்டும் என்பதற்காக அவர்கள் இவ்வாறு கேட்டுச் சோதித்தார்கள். இயேசு குனிந்து விரலால் தரையில் எழுதிக்கொண்டிருந்தார்.
