கர்த்தரைச் சேவிக்கிறது உங்கள் பார்வைக்கு ஆகாததாய்க் கண்டால், பின்னை யாரைச் சேவிப்பீர்கள் என்று இன்று தெரிந்து கொள்ளுங்கள்; நதிக்கு அப்புறத்தில் உங்கள் பிதாக்கள் சேவித்த தேவர்களைச் சேவிப்பீர்களோ? நீங்கள் வாசம்பண்ணுகிற தேசத்துக் குடிகளாகிய எமோரியரின் தேவர்களைச் சேவிப்பீர்களோ? நானும் என் வீட்டாருமோவென்றால், கர்த்தரையே சேவிப்போம் என்றான்.

கர்த்தரைத் தொழுதுகொள்கிறது உங்கள் பார்வைக்கு ஆகாததாகத் தெரிந்தால், பின்பு யாரைத் தொழுதுகொள்வீர்கள் என்று இன்று தெரிந்துகொள்ளுங்கள்; நதிக்கு அப்பால் உங்களுடைய பிதாக்கள் தொழுதுகொண்ட தெய்வங்களைத் தொழுதுகொள்வீர்களோ? நீங்கள் வாழ்கின்ற தேசத்தின் மக்களாகிய எமோரியர்களின் தெய்வங்களைத் தொழுதுகொள்வீர்களோ? நானும் என் வீட்டார்களுமோவென்றால், கர்த்தரையே தொழுதுகொள்ளுவோம் என்றான்.

“நீங்கள் கர்த்தருக்கு சேவை செய்ய விரும்பாமல் இருக்கலாம். ஆனால் உங்களுக்கு நீங்களே ஒன்றைத் தேர்ந்தெடுத்தாக வேண்டும். யாருக்கு சேவை செய்வதென்று இன்றைக்கு முடிவெடுங்கள். ஐபிராத்து நதியின் மறுகரையில் வாழ்ந்தபோது உங்கள் முற்பிதாக்கள் ஆராதித்த தெய்வங்களுக்கு சேவைபுரிவீர்களா? அல்லது இத்தேசத்தில் வாழ்ந்த எமோரியர் வழிபட்ட தேவர்களையா? நீங்கள் தேர்ந்தெடுக்க வேண்டும். ஆனால் நானும் எனது குடும்பமும், கர்த்தருக்கே சேவை செய்வோம்!” என்றான்.

ஆண்டவருக்கு ஊழியம் புரிவது தீயது என்று உங்கள் பார்வைக்குத் தோன்றினால், உங்கள் மூதாதையர் நதிக்கு அப்பால் பணிந்து வந்த தெய்வங்களுக்கோ, உங்கள் நாட்டில் உங்களுடன் வாழும் எமோரியரின் தெய்வங்களுக்கோ இவர்களுள் யாருக்கு ஊழியம் செய்வீர்கள் என்பதை நீங்களே இப்போது முடிவு செய்யுங்கள். ஆனால், நானும் என் வீட்டாரும் ஆண்டவருக்கே ஊழியம் செய்வோம்.⒫
