பின்பு அவர்கள் அவரை நோக்கி: யோவானுடைய சீஷர் அநேகந்தரம் உபவாசித்து ஜெபம்பண்ணிக்கொண்டுவருகிறார்கள், பரிசேயருடைய சீஷரும் அப்படியே செய்கிறார்கள், உம்முடைய சீஷர் போஜனபானம்பண்ணுகிறார்களே, அதெப்படியென்று கேட்டார்கள்.

பின்பு அவர்கள் அவரை நோக்கி: யோவானுடைய சீடர்கள் அநேகந்தரம் உபவாசித்து ஜெபம் செய்துவருகிறார்கள், பரிசேயர்களுடைய சீடர்களும் அப்படியே செய்கிறார்கள், உம்முடைய சீடர்கள் சாப்பிடவும் குடிக்கவும் செய்கிறார்களே, அது எப்படி என்று கேட்டார்கள்.

அவர்கள் இயேசுவிடம், “யோவானின் சீஷர்கள் அடிக்கடி உபவாசிக்கவும், பிரார்த்திக்கவும் செய்கிறார்கள். பரிசேயர்களின் சீஷர்களும் அதே மாதிரி செய்கிறார்கள். ஆனால் உங்கள் சீஷர்கள் எப்போதும் உண்பதும், குடிப்பதுமாக இருக்கிறார்களே” என்றார்கள்.

பின்பு, அவர்கள் இயேசுவை நோக்கி, “யோவானுடைய சீடர்கள் அடிக்கடி நோன்பிருந்து மன்றாடி வருகிறார்கள்; பரிசேயர்களின் சீடரும் அவ்வாறே செய்கின்றனர். உம்முடைய சீடரோ உண்பதும் குடிப்பதுமாக இருக்கின்றனரே!” என்றார்கள்.
