என் சத்துருக்களுக்கு முன்பாக நீர் எனக்கு ஒரு பந்தியை ஆயத்தப்படுத்தி, என் தலையை எண்ணெயால் அபிஷேகம்பண்ணுகிறீர்; என் பாத்திரம் நிரம்பி வழிகிறது.

உன் வஸ்திரங்கள் எப்பொழுதும் வெள்ளையாயும், உன் தலைக்கு எண்ணெய் குறையாததாயும் இருப்பதாக.

அந்த மூன்று வாரங்களாகிய நாட்கள் நிறைவேறுமட்டும் ருசிகரமான அப்பத்தை நான் புசிக்கவுமில்லை, இறைச்சியும் திராட்சரசமும் என் வாய்க்குள் போகவுமில்லை. நான் பரிமளதைலம் பூசிக்கொள்ளவுமில்லை.

நீயோ உபவாசிக்கும்போது, அந்த உபவாசம் மனுஷர்களுக்குக் காணப்படாமல், அந்தரங்கத்திலிருக்கிற உன் பிதாவுக்கே காணப்படும்படியாக, உன் தலைக்கு எண்ணெய் பூசி, உன் முகத்தைக் கழுவு.

அவன் தெக்கோவாவிலிருக்கிற புத்தியுள்ள ஒரு ஸ்திரீயை அழைத்து: நீ இழவுகொண்டாடுகிறவளைப்போல, துக்கவஸ்திரங்களை உடுத்திக்கொண்டு, எண்ணெய் பூசிக்கொள்ளாமல், இறந்துபோனவனுக்காக நெடுநாள் துக்கிக்கிற ஸ்திரீயைப்போலக் காண்பித்து,

மனுஷனுடைய இருதயத்தை மகிழ்ச்சியாக்கும் திராட்சரசத்தையும், அவனுக்கு முகக்களையை உண்டுபண்ணும் எண்ணெயையும், மனுஷனுடைய இருதயத்தை ஆதரிக்கும் ஆகாரத்தையும் விளைவிக்கிறார்.

பெரிய பாத்திரங்களில் மதுபானத்தைக் குடித்து, சிறந்த பரிமளதைலங்களைப் பூசிக்கொள்ளுகிறார்கள்; ஆனாலும் யோசேப்புக்கு நேரிட்ட ஆபத்துக்குக் கவலைப்படாமற்போகிறார்கள்.
