இயேசு அவனைப் பார்த்து, அவனிடத்தில் அன்புகூர்ந்து: உன்னிடத்தில் ஒரு குறைவு உண்டு; நீ போய், உனக்கு உண்டானவைகளையெல்லாம் விற்று, தரித்திரருக்குக் கொடு, அப்பொழுது பரலோகத்திலே உனக்குப் பொக்கிஷம் உண்டாயிருக்கும்; பின்பு சிலுவையை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு என்னைப் பின்பற்றிவா என்றார்.

இயேசு அவனைக் கவனித்தார். இயேசுவுக்கு அவன் மீது அன்பு பிறந்தது. இயேசு அவனிடம், “நீ செய்வதற்கு உரிய காரியம் இன்னும் ஒன்று உள்ளது. நீ போய் உனக்கு உரியவற்றையெல்லாம் விற்றுவிடு. அப்பணத்தை ஏழை மக்களுக்குக் கொடு. உனக்குப் பரலோகத்தில் நிச்சயம் பொக்கிஷமிருக்கும். பிறகு என்னைப் பின்பற்றி வா” என்றார்.

அப்போது இயேசு அன்பொழுக அவரைக் கூர்ந்து நோக்கி, “உமக்கு இன்னும் ஒன்று குறைபடுகிறது. நீர் போய் உமக்கு உள்ளவற்றை விற்று ஏழைகளுக்குக் கொடும். அப்போது விண்ணகத்தில் நீர் செல்வராய் இருப்பீர். பின்பு வந்து என்னைப் பின்பற்றும்” என்று அவரிடம் கூறினார்.
