அவர் அவர்களை நோக்கி: உங்கள் விசுவாசம் எங்கே என்றார். அவர்கள் பயந்து ஆச்சரியப்பட்டு: இவர் யாரோ, காற்றுக்கும் ஜலத்துக்கும் கட்டளையிடுகிறார், அவைகளும் இவருக்குக் கீழ்ப்படிகிறதே என்று ஒருவரோடொருவர் சொல்லிக்கொண்டார்கள்.

நீங்கள் எப்படியும் கர்த்தருக்குப் பயந்து, உங்கள் முழுஇருதயத்தோடும் உண்மையாய் அவரைச் சேவிக்கக்கடவீர்கள்; அவர் உங்களிடத்தில் எவ்வளவு மகிமையான காரியங்களைச் செய்தார் என்பதைச் சிந்தித்துப்பாருங்கள்.

தேவன் பரிசுத்தவான்களுடைய ஆலோசனைச் சபையில் மிகவும் பயப்படத்தக்கவர், தம்மைச் சூழ்ந்திருக்கிற அனைவராலும் அஞ்சப்படத்தக்கவர்.

சாமுவேல் கர்த்தரை நோக்கி விண்ணப்பம்பண்ணினான்; அன்றையதினமே கர்த்தர் இடிமுழக்கங்களையும் மழையையும் கட்டளையிட்டார்; அப்பொழுது ஜனங்கள் எல்லாரும் கர்த்தருக்கும் சாமுவேலுக்கும் மிகவும் பயந்து;

இம்மட்டும் வா, மிஞ்சி வராதே; உன் அலைகளின் பெருமை இங்கே அடங்கக்கடவது என்று நான் சொல்லுகிறபோதும் நீ எங்கேயிருந்தாய்?

அதற்கு அவன்: நான் எபிரெயன்; சமுத்திரத்தையும் பூமியையும் உண்டாக்கின பரலோகத்தின் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் இடத்தில் பயபக்தியுள்ளவன் என்றான்.

யோனாவை எடுத்துச் சமுத்திரத்திலே போட்டுவிட்டார்கள்; சமுத்திரம் தன் மும்முரத்தைவிட்டு அமர்ந்தது.

அவனோடே பண்ணின என் உடன்படிக்கை ஜீவனும் சமாதானமுமாக இருந்தது; அவன் எனக்குப் பயப்படும் பயத்தோடே இருக்கவேண்டுமென்று, இவைகளை அவனுக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டேன்; அப்படியே அவன் என் நாமத்துக்குப் பயந்தும் இருந்தான்.

அந்த மனுஷர்கள் ஆச்சரியப்பட்டு: இவர் எப்படிப்பட்டவரோ, காற்றும் கடலும் இவருக்குக் கீழ்ப்படிகிறதே என்றார்கள்.

தன்னிடத்திலே சம்பவித்ததை அறிந்த அந்த ஸ்திரீயானவள் பயந்து, நடுங்கி, அவர் முன்பாக வந்து விழுந்து, உண்மையையெல்லாம் அவருக்குச் சொன்னாள்.

எல்லாவற்றையும் நன்றாய்ச் செய்தார்; செவிடர் கேட்கவும், ஊமையர் பேசவும்பண்ணுகிறார் என்று சொல்லி, மேன்மேலும் ஆச்சரியப்பட்டார்கள்.

எல்லாரும் ஆச்சரியப்பட்டு: இது என்ன வார்த்தையோ! அதிகாரத்தோடும் வல்லமையோடும் அசுத்த ஆவிகளுக்கும் கட்டளையிடுகிறார், அவைகள் புறப்பட்டுப்போகிறதே என்று ஒருவரோடொருவர் பேசிக்கொண்டார்கள்.

ஆதலால், அசைவில்லாத ராஜ்யத்தைப் பெறுகிறவர்களாகிய நாம் பயத்தோடும் பக்தியோடும் தேவனுக்குப் பிரியமாய் ஆராதனை செய்யும்படி கிருபையைப் பற்றிக்கொள்ளக்கடவோம்.

கர்த்தாவே, யார் உமக்குப் பயப்படாமலும், உமது நாமத்தை மகிமைப்படுத்தாமலும் இருக்கலாம்? தேவரீர் ஒருவரே பரிசுத்தர், எல்லா ஜாதிகளும் வந்து உமக்கு முன்பாகத் தொழுதுகொள்வார்கள்; உம்முடைய நீதியான செயல்கள் வெளியரங்கமாயின என்றார்கள்.
