அக்காலத்திலே, இயேசு ஓய்வு நாளில் பயிர்வழியே போனார்; அவருடைய சீஷர்கள் பசியாயிருந்து, கதிர்களைக் கொய்து, தின்னத் தொடங்கினார்கள்.

அப்போது இயேசு, யூதர்களுக்கு முக்கியமான வாரத்தின் ஓய்வு நாளன்று வயல் வெளியில் நடந்து கொண்டிருந்தார். இயேசுவின் சீடர்கள் அவருடன் இருந்தனர். அவர்கள் பசியுடனிருந்தனர். எனவே, சீடர்கள் கதிர்களைப் பிடுங்கி உண்டனர்.
